Put some adds in the paper is one way or make up a web site or post something about it on utube since it seems popular.

Thanks, putting an advert in the paper will do as most persons in my community (the community am targetting) dont have access to the internet.

Putting up flyer's is another good way. I am currently forming a chess club here as well, and that seems to be working very well!

You've already violated the first and second rule of chess club. Do not talk about chess club!

As to formation, initial advertising in schools and churches will work well. Local college is a good place also.

Encourage players to bring friends, give free lessons, maybe write a chess article for the local newspaper in exchange for advertising. If you have a radio station locally do the same thing. Talk to local businesses about advertising in simple flyer you can pass out at the stores, maybe in exchange for a small ad they can help offset the costs. More than one way to advertise.

Once you get it up and going maybe sell chess books and sets to help offset costs, set up an organization, elected officers and get people involved. Maybe have small tourneys, etc.

Good luck.

Nice! No wonder I "friended" you.

Also, put a notice up at your local library. That is where one here meets.

Its a movie reference that I don't feel I have to explain too deeply. It would be rather odd for a chess player to mock chess clubs though, and rather impossible to form a club without telling anyone about it.

Perhaps simply playing in a public location, such as a library will gain your club exposure. If there are any public pinboards (perhaps at your school, or local supermarket), tack a flyer up for cheap advertising. Additionaly, word of mouth, that is, to simply talk about your club and encouraging others to talk about your club couldn't hurt.

We started with just the two of us, playing in the local library. They invited us to make it official, now we have seven players and about to form it into a proper chess club. It can be done without a great cost just perseverance and time.
