You can download Fritz for free. (look in the resources section ->downloadsin the top menu of this website). You can make the computer play at each level you want. From very easy to very Hard.
HI

What ever 1436 is I would imagine it's on about the level of a 1st grader thats been playing chess for about a week or two.
1436 is a very good rating! 1400s can crush most chessplayers.

Thanks alot. I think this will be fun. I'm sure I'll get the stuffings beat out of me when I start playing, so thanks for the tip on the computer. It can't yell at me.

Thanks for that. Is that a genuine rating? I mean I used to play chess a lot, just local meeting places, etc. I was never officially rated by a chess club or anything. I don't think this 1436 is anything official, but it would be nice if it were.
Thanks for responding to my comment.
Well, my computer won't let me download "fritz," or Setup.exe so it's been fun, but I won't be able to play chess online it looks like. I've tried everything. Options, exceptions, etc. I windows xp and Java 6.
Bye everyone.
I've been a member for about a day now, of Chess.com and I can see that if I do much more, I'll be hooked because this site will be very time-consuming.
However, I haven't played chess in years, but saw a show on Bobby Fisher the other day and I dusted off the cobwebs of my memory bank, and am interested.
Here's the problem. I don't really want to play anyone "live" because it would bore them to death, since when I went through the chess problems from Chess Mentor, I failed big time. After bumbling my way through a few of the chess problems, they have me "rated" at 1436. I don't think that is a real rating, or applies to anything, but that's what it says.
I'm thinking about getting a chess computer, since I can't figure out how to play myself against a computer online--without joining and spending money per month. I won't mind that, but not at this point.
Any suggestions, or is everyone to busy playing real chess with a real opponent?
