How do you guys deal with nosediving performance?

Hi everyone,

After hovering around mid to low 1500's I suddenly nosedived 80 rating points over the last couple of days. Just loss after loss after loss. Not sure what's happening.

How do you guys climb out of a funk like this? Also, anyone have any tips for getting out of a platoe at my level, seems like I never get better no matter how much tactics training I'm doing.

Big whoop...my rating on another site will go up and down from the 1800's to the 1400's.  Its just a game.

That... doesn't really make sense unless you don't play there that often. Like Grandmasters don't oscillate between 2400 and 2800 randomly, in my experience lower level players don't go up and down 400 points either.

Im not a GM.  All i play is 3/2 games.  Its just an online number.  It doesnt define who you are as a person.

you take time. lots of time. And you learn from it; experiment with the lower rated players, and come back even better than before.

In my blitz history, you might see I got up to 1604, only to dive right back down to 1450 two days later. It took months to climb out of that; but when I did, I stayed above 1600.

Of course, if you're playing 3 min blitz this doesn't apply to you.

5-10 mins. Thanks guys.

I play 10 mins usually, and as a result rarely get into heavy nosedives. All of those are actually caused by overdose of 3 mins.

Play 2-4 10 mins every day, keeps the mind sharp. I have found that playing too much chess makes me a walking zombie

I have this problem too, just take a day off or a small break to give your mind something else to do. Especially if it’s getting to you.

Yep...its not rocket science.  Just walk away for a bit.  Never understood the mentality of continuing to do something that brings you pain.  But then again if that was the case, the people wearing black leather and whips would be out of work.

80 points isn't that much. On another site, I lose and gain 80 points per week.
