I think a very powerful response is to genuinely ask , "Why are you rude to me?" This challenges the emotionally immature person to introspect.

I think it is helpful to maintain awareness that actually nobody has the power to offend you, contrary to common belief. Adults are responsible for their emotions.

Not saying the following applies to you; but when someone is rude, and you feel hurt or anger, is the disrespectful person the cause, or are do you lack understanding, lack mature coping skills? The answer, of course, is the latter; otherwise the rude person could "make" everybody "mad"; and a (sadly small) number of people exist, who always rise above reacting.

Playing with an intellectually mature but emotionally immature opponent might be good exercise to psychologically develop adult coping skills, certainly spiritual strength.

That is very wise. We can choose to be angry. We can choose to be grumpy. We can also, conversely, choose to be happy or cheerful

Sadly if someone say: Why are you rude to me?

The answer comes back: Because it is fun! :-)

This is so deplorable. I am appalled

Unfortunately, there will always be insults. The world is not perfect; Until it is, there will be deplorable people. There will be mean things. I think the best reaction is just to not participate in it. The world is bad enough already; We don't need to make it worse.

quiet all of you

If someone tries lame, tired insults, I insult them back, better, to get them to try harder. People rely on sex stuff too much, that is played. Come up with something original.

if some 1 insult's me i just ignore them because they are trolls and don't deserve my time

Besides report him, how do you feel and react in those cases?

I'm here only since a month, and people are mostly nice when they talk to me, but 2 times my opponent trashtalked and insulted me.

Both times they where winning, so I've decided to slowplay them as a lesson (I usualy played 30 minutes games). I know it's forbiden  (it's the only times I did that). Do you think it's a good thing to do? And of course I reported them.

(If a moderator see this and don't like that I slow play in these cases, tell me and I will stop, just don't ban me please !)

If someone insults you when they are winning, which is against the rules, it seems reasonable that you would need a lot of time between moves to recover from the terrible shock of it all. If your completely understandable reaction causes inconvenience to the horrible person, then it's a lesson he brought on himself.

Wait, are you trying to cancel other opinions? Arguing against them is one thing but telling people they should be ashamed is also shameful in its way, isn't it?

Avatar of Optimissed

Yes, you do have a point.

There's a button to disable chat if it becomes a problem. Other than that, the last time it was an issue for me, the player in question was good enough to win the game he was in after I blundered a knight. I asked for a rematch and I didn't blunder a piece in the second game. He was less talkative while losing.

Here is a transcript of a PM exchange between myself and an opponent I beat a couple of days ago. He requested that I go forth and multiply in Polish in the game chat after resigning and then later left me a message.

I had a win, because the northern gambit for white is lost, so I'm winning with you with a high ranking, But I did not want to play this terrible opening on your part

So you curse me in the game chat then follow with a message...because you are so annoyed that you messed it up lol 😂 this is chess my friend, only you are responsible for the moves you play. Do it better next time and get the win.

Pawn forward and the game continues with my advantage, there were other moves at stake, but I did not want to tire of such a poor opening

Yes, but I can play the moves I want and you can do the same. Should have continued with the moves which gave you an advantage then you big baby. Unfortunately you don't get to choose which openings and moves your opponents play against you.

You're right, I don't have a day to play today. I shouldn't have started playing today, especially since I was in no mood to concentrate and focus. I haven't played any games properly today.

If my opponent insults me ? well, it never happened to me but I guess I would proceed by kissing him in the lips, il bacio de la morte ... from Sicilia, no problem.

Some people on here were posting inappropriate things on another discussion board that I think should be removed. Who do we tell about it?
