So I was wondering, is there a way to see how many games in total have been played? because when you play a rapid game for example, the web link will look something like this
https://www.chess.com/game/live/143938536700
where the number after measures into the billions. On the flip side, you can find rapid game links like this
https://www.chess.com/game/live/2
from 2009.
This made me hypothesize, is the game link number the number of games in that time control played on chess.com? however upon further testing, I found that many of the links in the millions and billions are unconnected to any game, and send you back to the live Chess page. What do you guys think?
You can't really go by the numbers as there are different numbering methods for different things. But the site has been running near 20 million live games per day for a long time and had exceeded that in 2020 for a while.
It's easily hundreds of billions.
