It would also be interesting to know why your hair is on fire in that avatar pic, BISHOP?

I think that an active player is one that has played at least one game in the last 12 months.  I can confirm (or deny) that in about three weeks when it will have been over a year since I played my last blitz game.  Then it's a simple matter of subtracting the number of active players from the total membership.

TyrantTick

61 thousand per minute. An average person spends maybe half an hour online. Do the math.

I randomly calculate it's possibly about 2 million per day. Add in the fact some peeps come on only several days a week. Maybe 6 million active per week? With 10 million active per month. grin.png

TyrantTick

I would put that probably at around 5 million minimum. Maximum 6m

For me a little bit less than 6 milions.

If you think that the global number of Blitz players are 3.465.000 players....

I know...there are some active members that never played a Blitz game or a live game...but...how many?

Debistro

Bots and "zombie" traffic and also many multiple accounts from the same people (or bots). Bots can create accounts too. They can create accounts for spamming, and not do it immediately, because that creates a pattern for banning. Wink

Chess is not really a hot game among the masses and it's impossible to believe millions are even remotely interested.

I know, because the people in the Live Chess at any given time is a lot less than on another competing rival chess site that starts with "L".

I can hardly get an unrated game here on most days, but it's a lot less of an issue there, even though that "L" chess site has far "less" numbers to boast of.

So much so I hardly play here anymore.

Goram

does not matter as not looking for gf from here also enjoyed chess  greatly once in a server with 300 players,

Fabio656

However chess.com is the 1st chess site for users.

Sometimes i play also on lichess and chess24.....

On chess.com i NEVER waited more than 6-7 seconds to find a blitz game, on the other sites, sometime i wait 20-30 seconds(or more) for a blitz game.

The active members here are 2 or 3 times more of the other sites.

Not true for the litmus test. Unrated 2/1 minute games. Here, it's very hard to get opponents. On Lichess, most of the time, not at all. At all times of the day, there are willing opponents there.

Fabio656

I play 5, 5+5 and 15+10.

Here i NEVER waited more than 10 seconds.

Finding opponents for this timings lichess and chess24 are too much slower...

Fabio656

However i am sure that is also a matter of rating.

For my rating ~1500 in rapid and ~1300 in blitz is more easy to find opponents compared to 1900+ player like you

I assume you play rated games only. If we talk about rated, then all chess sites should have opponents most of the time, if not all the time. But I find that unrated games is a problem here, in general. At all time controls. Even for 1/0 time which seems to be the most popular bullet time...sometimes you have to wait a long time.

And I don't believe that players from one site do not want to play unrated, but for another site, they are all willing. Such different behavior for two sites is too stark a contrast.

The only plausible reason is that there are fewer players here in Live Chess. I used to be able to get unrated 2/1 matches quite easily 3-4 years ago right here. But now, it has become much harder over the years, even as the membership count continues to "grow" by a lot.

So I don't believe the inflated numbers at all. It has declined a lot.

Floating-Duck

Erik told me once there are only 235 active members on cc, the rest are 21QC puppet accounts

Floating-Duck

No, as eiderdown comes from the eider duck while I am clearly a mascovy duck. I do understand you where making an attempt at word play but you can't just connect to similair but different things and hope it is funny. Keep trying though maybe one day you will get to say something clever. You have the law of averages on your side.

No, the default for seeks is to play rated so the vast majority of games are rated. Also, the vast majority of games are auto-matched, since only the website has a seek graph.

So, for your games to be matched, someone in your seek rating range has to be looking for an unrated game at the same you are and have your rating range within their seek.

I feel like a large swath of these comments miss the fact that that was 60000 online in that instant, and that with 2000000 games, thats at least 4000000 players, or assuming those 60k were factored in, 3940000 players in that day, that far. So, 4/19 or 21% of all accounts had played, roughly.

Lord_Hammer

now there are 25 million and more than 10 million are active

cuires

What you are discuss here is a great secret , I guesses, because if chess.com say they have 15 millions players, then it could be politic, because they will lose promotion from investors , if there are  "only"   100.000 players , ore what do you think  ?

cuires

I think chess.cm have about 7,5 million active players (2018) but it could be higher, because you also have to look on how many non-players are following fx famous players, as fx nakamura, because they are also  "on"  chess.com, and a part of the site, I think  !  happy.png , so the numbher of 15 millions visiters on chess.com could be true  !  happy.png

cuires

my personly guess is that we all are about 38 millions on chess.com  evil.png
