How old were you when you learned how to play chess and what attracted you to ♟ chess.

Actually, I came here to post that I'm FINALLY over my phobia of playing another person because I kept FREEZING and getting beaten and I don't know why! I spent some time on Puzzles and playing chess bots from 1100-1300 and now I'm doing MUCH better and usually beating people with higher general ratings than mine. Now I just have the mute button on for ALL games!

When I was 7 years old I learned to play checkers and I loved the idea of strategy, so a year later my father taught me to play chess.

I often used to play chess with my father and always lose to him! Now that I know the basic things like Pins, Skewers and Double Attacks, I can defeat him at a certain point of time!

You know what a discovered attack is?

I learned because of the Fisher vs. Spassky world championship match. I watched every move live with my chessboard in front of the TV.

I’m just curious - when I play in person, of COURSE, I practice good sportsmanship but online, when I win, I like to yell things like “Boom!” or “In yo face, sucka!” or other things I can’t write here. Am I the only one?🤭😲😆😁

Baseball was the thing I got most worked up on - especially pitching.

BUCKLE UP!

Here's my story:

I first discovered it when a friend of mine introduced it to me when we were 8.

She spotted a chess board in the room my mum and i shared and insisted she teach me.

Long story short, I immediately hated chess.

I refused to play it.

Until...

2 years later, age 10. We are given 3 Clubs to choose form: Football, basketball and...

Chess.

Me being the frail and insecure kid I was, I chose chess.

I was a God darn slow learner, lost against people 3 years younger than me and couldn't even spot a low rated mate in 2

Years later in quarantine. I downloaded some apps to play chess, played a few times a month, and got better.. I think.

I almost forgot it when school started again in 2021-2022.. But in 2023,

I found myself back to chess.

And that's where my journey began.. On April 1st 2023, I made an account here and on other apps and started playing a bit.

And now. We will see where this goes!

Dad taught me to play about 7 years ago....lost interest as a teenager and played very occasionally until 2018 when I re discovered the game online.

When I retire I intend to join a club and play otb regularly. Unfortunately can't afford to do that just yet, so online it is for now.

So I guess its a genetic thing, I have inhertited my Dad's love of chess. Shame my kids haven't.
