How people can disconnect without a trace？

It has happened to me a few times so far, when an opponent is about to lose, it suddenly got disconnected, no points awarded and the weird part is that the game dose not even show up in the history! Twice after a few days chess.com gave me back some points, guess those guys use some custom clients and once detected should be permanently banned

When a game disappears, it is because it was aborted by a restart of the chess.com servers.
They usually post warnings.
