I can do the puzzles, but have a hard time playing a game of chess

I am doing the chess puzzles and I am still having trouble seeing all of the board. I miss easy set-ups, my rating for the puzzles is over 1800. It has taken me years to achieve that. Also, the reason I don’t play chess against anyone is because I don’t get what I need to do with my openings. I am having trouble throughout the whole process. Any ideas? Any tips/tricks? Help!  What do I need to do? Who do I need to visit?
