We all have our own needs and budget. I need more than 5 ChessMentor lessons a day and have several favorite video authors on here as well.
I'd take platinum over diamond.
I think platinum is better because diamond doesn't give you much more and it costs almost twice as much.

If I wanted to upgrade I'd take platinum.
Diamond isn't super expensive... if here was a higher level of membership (that offered something I wanted and could afford)... I'd consider it.

Who are your favorite video authors, baddogno? I was thinking of a diamond membership.
I've noticed that I see very few people with gold memberships. Seems like if somebody bothers to get a membership in the first place, he'll go for platinum or diamond. I think diamond is slightly more common of the two.

IM Danny Rensch' Live Session videos are alone worth the price of admission for me. Getting inside the mind of a titled player and hearing him talk his way through his candidate moves while simultaneously doing a standup comedy routine is really something you should experience. Man knows his chess and how to get his points across.
WGM Abrahamyan has a 12 part video on the French that's must viewing for anyone using it or facing it. Just a no nonsense information packed ride through current theory. IM Keaton Kiewra does the same for the Dragon in a 10 part series. He has a very calm reassuring delivery. GM Finegold is admittedly on loan from the St. Louis Chess Club so other videos of his can certainly be found elsewhere, but he's another "edutainment" master with a sly selfdeprecating style that's utterly charming. Oh don't get me wrong. All these videos take a lot of work to really gain benefit from. It's not like you can "couch potato" your way to chess competency. I just seem to learn better from media other than books. And yes, there are enough videos on youtube to keep you busy and productive for the rest of your life without needing chess.com. I just prefer having my tools in one place and think overall that these are a little sharper.
I honestly don,t care
Honestly, the whole formom topic is stupid
then why are you quoting yourself?
Well if you're in chess for the fun and entertainment, arguably the more healthy choice, I think all you really need is a platinum membership. There are plenty of entertaining Danny Rensch videos on the chess.com youtube channel, as well as that Rendle guy.
If you're here to learn and improve, then playing the extra $50 a year for the videos might be beneficial... might not be.
And if you're on a tight budget, just stick with the platinum.
In case someone didn't know this, titled players can register with chess.com and get a free diamond membership :)

If I wanted to upgrade I'd take platinum. Reasons:
I really don't need video lessons or unlimited chess mentor.
I like 5 themes but I'd like unlimited
Diamond has only something like 5 features that platinum doesn't.
