I like birds meself and the odd fish.
I'm over it

I dont have anything against homosexual people. I enjoy them as much as any other human being. Thats not my problem. The problem is that such pics have absolutely nothing to do on this site. Why the hell are you posting pictures of the ass of a cat?
Oh. I see. I thought your complaint was that kids would be offended. Can't believe I got that one wrong.
Anyway....
Your question has a very simple answer.
You see, every thread posted has a general number of relevant posts that can be expected. This is know to scientists as topic half-life. (McCoy & Sulu 1956)
A threads topic half-life depends on many factors; relevance, broad apeal, moral content, trollness and several other measurable factors.
Once all these factors are looked at, an estimated topic half-life can be calculated. For example, lets say someone posts a topic that is nothing more than a rant because the OP is bugged about losing a game or something. These types of threads have a topic half-life of about 10. On the other hand, a thread about the ability of women to play chess can have a topic half-life of several hundred as it is a topic that is open to a lot of debate.
Now, this thread, after doing all the calculations, had a topic half-life of about 8 - 10. This means that after about 8 - 10 responses, the usefulness of the responses will begin to decline rapidly. After another 4 - 5 responses, their usefulness can be all but immeasurable.
Now, it is at the point that a threads topic half-life elapses that the real magic begins.
At the fringe of this topic half-life, some threads will begin producing some strange activity. This activity is quite often not related to the original topic, or may be related through some unexpected and inexplicaible way.
It is during this time that the thread can actually metamorphosis into a totally different type of thread called an off-topic thread.
As for this thread. You can go back and see that the topic began to rupture and become unstable around the 4th or 5th post. And, by the 10th post, I was able to corrctly predict that the thread would move into an off-topic state.
And this brings us to the point that you are questioning.
Once a thread enters an off-topic state, it becomes an unpredictable beast. New topics will emerge that can last from 1 to several posts. Sometimes these micro topics (Riker - Wesley 1999) are related to previous micro topics, sometimes they are not and sometimes they can be related to micor topics that appeared several posts earlier. (micro topic estrangement theory; Logan and Skywalker 2013)
The most disturbing part about these micro topics is that they most often have absolutely NOTHING to do with chess. Research has indicated that this may be do to differential values between emergance speeds, favorable feedback and mind altering substances. (Target, Wall and Greens 2011).
I hope this helps you understand how images and topics unrelated to chess can seem to appear from nowhere in the forums.
At this time, there is no known strategy for eliminating this phenomena. Scientists and doctors generally agree that when confronted with these dangerous micro topics, it is best to stay calm and try not to be a loser.

How many fishing threads are there in this forum? Come to think of it, why are there no attacking openings named after sharks?

you know that you have done something bad. The right step would be to simply apologize...
I know many kids, including my own daughter, aged 6 to 12 years old. Everyone of them know all about boys kissing boys and girls kissing girls.
Just yesterday my daughter asked me how 2 married men could have a child. I told her about adoption. She said, "They should get a boy so they can play football!". As you can see, she can easily incorporate gay marriage families into the herto marriage model in her mind and understand it.
So I don't think it is as offensive to children as you seem to think it is.
I would say you are just personally offended by homosexuality and are projecting that.
And that's OK. I understand.
I grew-up in a very homophobic part of America and until my late 20's, I too was uncomfortable with homosexuality. It was about that time that I moved to San Francisco.
I'm sorry. But it is just as much a fact of life as men and women loving each other. Images of men kissing are no different than this image:
As far as the cat image goes. I explained earlier what that was about.
35% of Americans have cats as pets. And 100% of them have friends who visit their homes.
So 35% of Americans and their friends who visit see this on a regular basis. So, again, I believe this image may not be as widly offensive as you may feel it does.
Unlike the kissing, I really have no idea why you would find the picture of a cat's butt offensive.
Only 40 years ago, the image you posted above would be just as offensive as seeing two boys or two girls kissing....I believe the image above is still a problem for a great deal many.
I felt sorry for human beings since I was a kid cuz I saw they shackle themselves down to their prejudices/intolerances/bigotry and unnecessary conflict and injustices arise because of it.
When you're a kid, the only question you have when you see something different you say wow and you ask your parents " Papa, why does he look like that..?"....It's usually the parents themselves who inculcate prejudices/intolerances in their children with their answers like " Stay away from those people, son". ( Not that my dad, ever did that :). He was a man who never answers questions from kids LOL..)
Where's the love y'all? Shouldn't we be teaching children that instead?

So, did you kiss that boy yet?
I kiss boys.
It's overrated. :)
Have you considered taking lessons from love_me_impossible?
Maybe it might improve the experience?
Just please dont post images of boys kissing cat's anusses, ok?
