hi chess.com recently i saw multiple people getting banned for community guidelines and they think they don't deserve it or they want second chance or they never get a reply or they really want just to play chess etc...

so i got a nice idea instead of permanent ban from chess.com you can just permanent mute

in that way people don't have to worry about never playing chess again and will have no access to community plus they will never talk to anyone

and it is win win situation what do you think mods?

Bans are almost always for more extreme or repeated TOS violations.

The members that get closed can still contact support directly, which does not require an account, to discuss getting the account unbanned, which may end up with a mute after as well.

i understand but why letting users to never play chess again where you can just never let them access community

Another problem is when we know that we have played a violater, and we are on or way to report them after the game, then we suddenly remember that when we did that last once before, we were suddenly facing tons of violators afterward as if we were placed in a so called «bad sport» player pool. That is why I now don’t want to report violators.

i understand but when violators are muted they will never do anything plus they may didn't mean what they say because they are metally down for example so if they got muted they can just play chess without bothering anyone

There are a lot of instances where closure is the only good option. The site already does long or permanent mutes as well. It all depends on the situation.

Reporting doesn't place you in the poor sportsmanship pool. That's only for sportsmanship violations.

The flaw is that bans aren't always due to "community" stuff.

Resigning every game on the first move, making your opponents wait unnecessarily, mutes don't solve that.

Cheating won't be solved by mutes either.

Once you start supporting censorship, it never ends. Anyone can be banned for anything. The forums (at least one of them) should be unmoderated for the free flow of ideas and expression. Sorry if that would give Martin a lot of free time to fill up in his day.

cursing is not only reason for being banned
