Alfred (thanma), we are both older players here. My range is 1500 and below. I'm playing chess just for fun like I said on my profile and the 1st comment of this thread which I started on it.

burhanqerimi

I am Burhan Qerimi. Born and raised in a village somewhere in Kosovo. I took chess because i though chess is related to intellegence therefore it might help me with it and with concentration.  Love playing tennis, football - although football desire now seems to have vanished...love learning and i like sometimes to stay in a calm and lonely place. I like art as well; painting mostly.

I am very ambitious and enthusiastic, curious and chatty. I am proud of what i have done and sometimes i am ashamed of myself for what i have done. My fear is Public presence and me and my relatives getting old and eventually dying.

The most desirable era to live in i consider romantism - because of romantism of course! And also no cameras, cellphones, digital games...to waste your time with.

Thats it.

Hi Burhan.  You sound a really nice guy.  I wonder about the Romantic Era though - do you mean late 18th C  ish?  I wonder what that looked like in Kosovo?  I think of it as mostly a time/movement when people loved nature, history, beauty, emotion - that sort of thing.  Was Kosovo part of that movement?  Forgive my ignorance of your lovely country - I only know what I've seen on the news of your recent troubled times.

I mean 17-th century and late 18-th century. Unfortunately my country has been under ottoman influence at that time - so not much involvment with that movement. Altough it might been a thing to some minor people of that time.  Kosovo has been in war 20 years ago but now things are at ease (no conflicts or attacks going on). The problem now is visas to visit "old" Europe and our inner problem which is corruption (criminals and bunch of hillbillies idiot have taken over the government and institutions). thanks

AliMcK

So you don't find it easy to travel?  You can't get visas easily?  Do you think you will become part of the EU anytime soon?  We have corruption and hillbillies here too in Guernsey - but they hide it quite well, they wear posh clothes and went to the right schools and so the problem perpetuates....

no not easy at all, near impossible...in some countries to get a working visa you have to wait almost 2 years! Many people leave the country to work abroad in germany, switzerland, italy and now in croatia and slovernia.  With this elite of corrupted, egoistic, relentless and materialsitc idiots i doubt if ever...plus europe is a bit skeptic since our main religion is islam, and now the trend of ultra-nationalistic anti-migration keeps growing. The solution might be a revolution perhaps but that is low probability since most people decide to leave rather than fight for justice and change, and those who stay here are either too ignorants or have a tie with the government.

Where u from anyways - at first i thought england (due to similarity with english flag), but i was wrong i guess...

I played a lot of chess as a teenage - playing for Hampshire men's team. University, falling in love, marriage & family diverted me. Then when I joined a club the cigarette smoke was unacceptable. My last match game in an all-London tournament was all over in 9 moves. A Falkbeer counter gambit. My wife was unwell when the next match was due so I didn't continue. In a brief hospital stay, 2 other patients were playing. I challenged the winner - I would play blindfold. I won.
