It’s sad to see many people come and go. I’ve had a lot of friends (some close friends too) leave over the years. Many have quit chess.
I've dived too deep into the sunk cost fallacy for this godforsaken game to quit now. I'm 21 but I can already start saying the phrase "I've been playing for longer than you have been alive" to a lot of people online (playing for 15 years). I have to keep the streak going, so that I can start saying it to more people.
You should look at chess from another perspective. You can still play occasionally; maybe even daily. Just invest less time into chess. 2300-2500 range in all time controls is incredible. You’ll still be at that accomplishment regardless how active you are.
You’ll be better off playing less while still enjoying the game. People are impressed at 2000 just about as much as if you were 2500. Their perspective it’s some super far advanced chess thing and they look at you just about the same as if you were a Grandmaster.
