Is the Albin Counter Gambit "sound" for Black against 1.d4?

Hi friends,

I have been an ardent Budapest Gambit player (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5 3.dxe5 4.Ng4) till now and it is common knowledge for those who have played with and against it that the gambitted pawn can be regained, mostly atleast with a "+=" position (with the loss of the advantage of the bishop pair in most games for black).

Yesterday, I chanced upon an article on something called the Lasker Trap in the Albin Counter Gambit lines (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5)... Found it pretty interesting and thought of trying out the Albin too as Black...

So, can someone who knows or plays this plz give some suggestions on the "soundness" of this gambit.. Is it "playable" to atleast get a "+=" position as mentioned above in the Budapest ? (I understand that no gambit is "sound" as such in Steinitz's words but still wud like to get some opinionsSmile)

ThanksSmile,

Arun

It seems to me that the Gambit is sound enough that the better play still usually wins. Check out the following links:

1. "albin" tournament, currently being played:

2. A forum topic I started regarding the Albin Counter-Gambit that includes three of my games where I caught intermediate players with the Lasker Trap:
