It's ok to switch to v3!

I didn't really conduct a thorough and extensive study of v3 finally - as what I saw in the "first hour of play" a few days ago was already enough for me to fully make the transition.

There are still a few more things I noticed over these last few days - and here they are:

1. The settings have never been easier and simpler to navigate! I didn’t even know that you could turn off invitations for matches/clubs/groups!!

Here in v3 this option simply comes and presents itself to you as you generally browse the settings section, not knowing what to expect – and everything is just so easy!!

By the way, of course people can still invite me – but now they need to write me a personal message.

2. Some people mourn the absence of a tactics trainer archive in v3 – for me personally this is not an issue

3. I would request that in online chess, when analyzing the game, I could also include sub-variations and commentary, and save my analysis – much like I do in Scid vs. pc…

Right now the platform only allows to play a line, and erases a line when I play another line. I can write no notes about specific positions in my analysis.

Of course we also didn’t have that in v2 – but why not incorporate it into v3?

(You’re going to hate me for this now) – at least for DIAMOND members

4. Another cute feature: you want to write a message to a member – there’s a box that asks you what that member’s name is. You supply it – you get (like in Facebook) his name and his icon show up, and you just have to click – so no worries about wrong spelling etc.

5. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait – I’m writing all of this long dissertation, and I totally failed to mention maybe the most striking feature –

You go over a game you played, and suddenly you see for every move, how much TIME was spent on it, and what the clock situation was each and every step of the way, including at the end!!

So you can see how effective your time allocation was, you can recall which decisions were influenced by time trouble – to a very precise degree. This is a revolution!!

6. I’m now excitedly going over my first ever computer analysis here at chess.com!!

I believe that this feature was somehow available in v2 – but here in v3 it’s really easy and simple to access. I believe I might have missed it earlier.

Another novelty: if a player resigns, you are invited to complete the game against computer level ten! (how strong is that actually?) Great training!

A suggestion though: it could be nice to have the “computer top three” moves, along their evaluations, appear on each and every move – including on moves that YOU make during analysis, to try this or to try that.

This would provide an even more powerful training tool!!

Right now, only the “computer top one” move appears, and only after a blunder, mistake or inaccuracy are made – when an “inaccuracy” has to be a full 0.60 points below the “computer top one” move.

7. Maybe I’m wrong here – but I do get the impression that we have fewer trophies now than we had in v2. Is that right?

One thing is certain – we could have an INCREASE in the number of creative and variegated rewards, with which we may adorn our friends and opponents.

I think the trophies are the same, with new graphics.

Commander_Riker,  he's not talking about a speed issue, but a certain lag that occurs when typing text.  Even typing slowly, the letters that appear are 5 or 6 letters behind.  I had this issue and submitted a ticket.  Erik got back to me and had me try different things (suspecting it was my old computer more than anything, but that turned out not to be the problem).  Finally, they must have found something because my problem disappeared.  Apparently there are other things that cause this same problem.

Indeed BatGirl that is even more strange and is also something I have never had an issue with at all. Matter of fact it is up there faster then I can type and watch what I have typed. I'll have to look into issues that may be causing this. I will see if a can duplicate it on one of my slower computers running XP still. My current computer has 16 megs of memory and a fast quad core processor. While the XP has only 2 meg of memory and a dual core processor. I'm not sure if the computer itself could be part of the cause. I'll get back to everybody on what I find if there is a difference between computer speed and cache memory affecting the typing speed. Just seems so weird to me  ?? happy.png Thanks

The trophies now are WORSE, with BAD graphics.

I could not believe when I saw the new trophies. Ugly graphics.

Compare the trophy "HEART OF A LION", one of the funniest trophy.

V2 had a good graphic for it. In V3 you can't see nor a lion neither a heart.

That's why at first sight I thought there had some kind of sabotage within this V3.

Yeah - I know... people keep mentioning that - but I don't personally suffer from this issue...

btw Marco - I do have to agree re. the graphics of the "Heart of a Lion" trophy - one of my favorites and a great discovery since I received it from...

Marco himself!

Bilbo21

They should get that dentist on the news some months back to hunt a lion, then take a picture of himself holding the heart and use that as the trophy.  Just suggestin'

Not sure if it's just me, but when I surf the threads I prefer v2. When I actually play, I prefer v3.

Yes, V3 is better for live chess, but V2 is good too - I play live in both.

But V2 is better for navigation, foruns and other stuff.

About foruns, V3 has a nice improvement: you can embed youtube videos in posts - this does not have in V2.

I have tried everything and can not duplicate the slow typing issue even on a much slower computer and running XP instead of Win 10. If anybody is have problems with slow typing Please contact support at https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new

I actually had it happen on a different computer earlier today but it wasn't super slow, just a little stuttering. Will try and test again later.

2 reasons why v3 is better than v2:

1. There are chess variants.

V3: It is easy to play Crazyhouse on the computer instead of a real chess board.

V2: It does not have the chess variants and in Crazyhouse, it is possible to get 3 bishops without promoting. A real chess set only has 2 bishops.

2. The images went through the background.

V3: The images will only be in the White Space and never come out of it.

V2: If your image is too big, it will go through the inner background.
