Ladders or Pyramids?

Fabror's put together a league system like the English soccer system, where players are relegated and promoted for winning and losing. I don't know how well it will work out though with all the tournaments ending at different times and such. I think a ladder or pyramid system would be fun, but not for everyone. I like tournaments because I like the idea of 'official' games and 'one-off' games, and then I have the couple of friends I play with whenever they're online. Having ladder games or pyramid games would interest me.
Until the nice people at chess.com create something of the sort. I have decided to make a ladder competition group. It's a test run for me on running this sort of thing so while the official thing would undoubtably be better, hopefully I'll be able to do an okay job. If you're interested come join the group and tell others so we can get this thing running! When we have enough people we can start. Also, I will definitely take any advice into consideration.

Has any thought been given to haveing a ladder feature (like, for example, on [edit] one site) or a pyramid feature (like, for example, on a [edit] different site)? The tournament feature here is great and what attracted me to chess.com - espeically the ability to host invitation-only tournaments - but the ladder/pyramid type of competition could be great.
