We're making tremendous progress here!
Lots of websites are shutting down comment sections, chess.com should too.
Hitler closed down chess clubs, not because the nazi's were bad at chess, but because conversation took place in them. I note the opening statement made a number of assertions that many would disagree with; dissent is good.
We should be discerning between genuine differences of opinion and trolls. People who don't like discussion but want their own opinions heard here is a bit like the loudmouth in the canteen who says what they want but threatens anyone who differs.

As you have seen, not many here at cc have that ability.
I don't see a problem. If people who use this site don't like the forums then don't use them; don't look at them if the comments or topics bore you or are offensive to you. Many of us do enjoy the chat, banter and discussion.
That's not realistic. I, for one, am drawn toward that which I find irritating.
No wonder we get along.
I only comment on topics I find interesting, though I wouldn't have the uninteresting topics closed down, I just don't bother with em.
I usually only comment on topics I find stupid or pointless. Sometimes, someone asks an opening question that I actually have some info on, then I put in a comment and let fiveofswords take over from there.
