I'm actually learning it now. It really does improve calculation, and several top grandmasters find it easier to not look at a board when calculating (Ivanchuk). It's really hard, I can't go through a game yet, but I'm getting better. It's pretty possible for anyone >1600 fide to learn, dunno about below that.
Mental Chess

Did anyone ever learn to play "mental chess?" i.e. playing chess in ur head and speaking your moves without sitting at a board?
An uncle of mine used to brag and mesmerize me with this when i was young n new to chess, and it usually had me thinking how good he musta been.
Now i think it was all hot air. lol
