The Yuri Lapshun book was pretty Mediocre though. Some of the lines he suggests are just wack. he sides too far outside the bounds of reasonable objectivity. "theory and practice of the sokolsky" is just a superior book for the most part, although it has its problems too
My least favorite person on chess.com

if its good enough for ivanchuk to play it agaisnt li chao twice and win both games, its good enough for you noobs.
it was good enough for international master yury lapshun to write an entire book on it
I read the book cover to cover in a few hours without a board (because I was lazy and i borrowed it at a cafe)
and then I played it against an 1800 in a 90+30 SD 30+30 tc which lasted four hours and won
come on, you can come up with a better example that that given your rating here XD
my first GM draw OTB was with 1.b4. (and in fact, it was a botched win draw, i was a clean knight up at one point) but my nerves gave in when were both low on time ). I also played it agaisnt Luifang Li when he was "only" like a 2500 IM and had like +1.2 advantage by like move 12. He won but i was much better straight out of the opening.
it astounds me the kind of opening gossip you still see in this day and age when we see, Carlsen playing b4 , two rossolimos in the same WC match, 1.b3 becoming a fashion trend for some time, and the Jobava london becoming a thing. This isnt Kasparov's day where opening propiety in some cubist objective ideal is the aspiration. Top players, play what they can get away with. With access to engines, so many underestimated things are now viable.
True
I'm only 1940 USCF though, and I haven't been performing too well recently (a botched 1900 performance and a 2040 performance in my last two tournaments)
