I’m so sorry......I am no good fixer, I usually bang things up more than before, I would probably be fired if I got a job in a fixing place....

Ethernet is the most simple way to connect to the internet through a wired connection.

I'm sure you must have seen such a cable somewhere connected to a computer/ laptop/ router.

It's much better than using your regular cellular connection.

Might be something in this article that will help...

When the network is crowded because of every body work from home that will slow down the internet.

You could use the internet when every body mostly in sleep time.

Or use 5g(i am very sure it doesn't give you cancer as I use it)

Your connection is bad because you live in China. In China all connections to foreign IP addresses (websites) are throttled (slowed down) because paranoid people who are in control of this kind of thing would prefer that their own citizens do not use foreign websites, or at least limit their use of foreign websites.

Instead of blocking all foreign websites like they do with FB, Twitter, Google etc. they slow them down (throttling) and intercept packets (the tiny bits of data your computer sends back and forth from a server) so those websites become so slow and unreliable, most Chinese choose to avoid them. So while not officially blocked, they make them so they’re almost unusable.

In China all websites that are approved by the state have an ICP number at the bottom next to the government logo. Websites with this logo or other IP addresses that have been through this approval process run smoothly and quickly.

If you want to play live chess without your connection dropping randomly for several minutes at a time due to packets disappearing (like what has happened to Ding Liren on several occasions in top online tournaments recently) you need a) a good VPN; or b) to use a chess website/app with a server in China that is approved by the Chinese government and therefore has an ICP number.

I would say the name of the chess app hosted in China but Chess.com rules do not allow that and the app is poor anyway. It’s only good for live chess and not having your connection drop every five minutes but you usually have to wait 5 minutes to find a game and the features are so limited I mainly just play Daily Chess here.

You are right, Chess.com isn’t banned like YouTube but it is hosted on a foreign server/IP address so the connection to that server (Chess.com) still gets slowed down because it it foreign and doesn’t have an ICP number (a number that shows the Chinese government have approved the website).

Also, packets being sent from your connection in China to foreign servers routinely get intercepted and checked, usually by some algorithm, to make sure you are not doing anything ‘bad’.

This is why Ding Liren has lost several online games in big online tournaments; his connection either dropped because his packets (little bits of data) were intercepted or because his VPN disconnected. This is a common occurrence and you, like all other chess players connecting from China, will just need to get used to it.

The internet provider have some options of the connection level from the economy level into the fastest level. You could register for the higher level with not too much additional cost.

It’s not an internet speed issue. It’s just a special characteristic of the internet in China.

I have a 200Mb fibre optic in China and and an 80Mb broadband in the UK.

While in China, on my 200Mb fibre optic connection, browsing and downloading stuff on Chinese servers is like lightning, ridiculously fast speeds. As soon as I go to a website based on a server outside China, the connection becomes ridiculously slow and unreliable with the connection sometimes dropping out for several minutes and then eventually coming back but again, still slow. As soon as I connect to a Chinese website or to a website with a Chinese government approved ICP number, it’s lightning quick again.

While in the UK, on my 80Mb broadband, the internet connection is super quick too. It’s not as quick as my China connection when on Chinese servers but quick enough. When I connect to servers outside the UK on my UK broadband, there is no difference in speed and the ping remains the same. I don’t get randomly disconnected and if I do, it’s only for 1-2 seconds.

All in all, even though my UK internet connection is ‘slower’ than my China connection, my UK internet connection is 1000 times better. It is far more reliable and the speed is consistent no matter which websites I connect to all the way in Australia or right here in the UK, it’s quick. The China internet connection I have when in China is downright awful because as soon as you use a website outside China it’s painfully slow at times.

In short, it’s just a special characteristic of China’s internet. You just have to accept that’s the way it is in China.
