Hello,

a quick post to test that I can, and a hello from me. I can't post images (no button shows to do it), but I presume that's because I signed up to platinum mere minutes ago (prompted by recently buying Fritz 18).

My interest in chess has "rekindled" after something like a 25-year hiatus during which I played only occasional OTB games and mostly got thrashed into disinterest by various (simple) chess programs on a PC. I kept at chess problems from books though because I like the pace. But solving problems is not playing...

I retired years ago (early) and have plenty of  time for a fresh start, albeit with competition from my other interests. I intend to adopt better approach to learning this time (aka actually doing any proper learning/training at all) and this site will help structure that. I'm still a bit tentative about playing  live opponents online as I've never done it before, but I'll get going soon. I almost never played to time constraints before and know I *really* need to start .

My how chess software has advanced though! I had no idea the analysis tools were so sophisticated now and I'm having great fun just exploring it all. Most of all (at this moment) I appreciate the way Fritz 18 plays against weak blunder-factories like me. Nice to see the occasional (credible) mistakes made by the engine and take advantage - even if it did fluff the move purposely and I still go on to lose. It is much more motivating than being flat-out thrashed from the start, and every time, on any reasonable strength setting.

Interesting times.

Cheers

You're kind of similar to me, I'm also returning after a 25-30 year break. There are plenty of things to do on the site, puzzles, lessons, practice from various positions, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about playing online, you'll soon get used too it. Enjoy your games 😀

Welcome, it’s a jungle in here. Enjoy the journey.
