I think the feature works fine as it is. When a game starts, most people want to know what the rating adjustment will be if the game ends normally.

Since we already know that games won't be counted if, for instance, the game is aborted before anyone moves, it doesn't really add value to have the calculation say "Doesn't count yet... Check back later" at the beginning of the game. In fact, that would be pretty annoying. :)

Ok. Now I see it´s deliberately. But still false data. Premature information. Could You add there some more data ?  Based on the rules.    Undecided

it also states:

A less common case involves users who have timed out in more than five consecutive games. Once this happens, the system assumes that they have simply abandoned the site for some reason. After five games have ended due to inactivity, we stop making rating adjustments on further time-outs in that user's games. This is to prevent arbitrary ratings inflation.

Yeah ! let's get some data-accuracy about this site. First was messing around with time now it's ratings !!

If didn't immediately obliterate records of banned or closed a/c (to free server-space I assume) many of these flaws wouldn't arise. Why not LEAVE the historical-record of these people. They did participate in chess-games & often other site-activity so why erase this ??

CBA: I'll let the guy who did the avatar code know about that. Certainly seems odd to me.

4 weeks ago I was told someone would look into why my avatar appears different to different people...

CBA seems your trouble is receiving low-priority ?

It is however a '' pictorial-representation '' difficulty & affects little in functionality ??

The solution may lie in loading a blank-avatar initially, then re-loading the one you really wish (ensuring this is formatted as '' GIF '' file & not '' jpeg '' :))

ps. When the staff don't answer I always assume they haven't a clue how to fix your problem... Smile

it states on site rules:

Resign- Affects ratings immediately after the abort option is gone (one move)

but that match is going to timeout since your opponent is ban no rating change, but you will get his or her name on portfolio as "best win" if you don't have anyone esle higher

How about vacationing ? 2296 - 2085 = 211 points to lose in 5 games ?!  Impossible, I suppose.

Check this little "Buggy" out..... I am an admin in a group with some other Dear FrienCom. and My Good Buddy "BodyGuard" startred a bunch of groups and w ebuilt them a bit. but in one of the groups our group Avatar, was a Picture of one of our Lady Admins, Standing Next to a Very Oversized Black Panther... now come to find out months later, She is no Lady, and He Closed his accounts months back...But The Avatar Still Pops Up Here and there, although its been replaced,,Reappears Like a Cross Dressing Over Sized Bug, Its the whole truth, but LOL anyways...

who ever programed the new gig we got going, needs to make a program, that runs thru this gig, and spots the bugs, and fixes them on the spot....

it would seem to me that we have a better chance of Getting "Booted for Complaining about it the Wrong Way, Than That Turk Does, of Getting Rid of the Real Culprit, "The Bugs"...

Not That I'm Complaining, just merely letting Steam, out the Hat Rack, So The Pressure Dont Build Up.....

LauriAikio, the ratings for the players after the end of a game are calculated at the end of that game, using the ratings and Glicko coefficients of the players at that time.

The rating adjustment displayed during the game itself is only a prediction, of course. It usually gives you already quite a good idea about what the rating changes will be, but the prediction can only use present values in its calculation, not the real future ones used for the real rating change calculation at the end of the game.

Don't fall for the assumption "if a computer system says so, it must be absolutely true". Predicted values can be valuable information without needing to being the same as the real outcomes.
