Nothing is stopping game abandonment

If someone abandons a game, you can file a report. Chess.com sends you a super lame message that action has been taken.

But if effective action were being taken, people would not still be abandoning games.

If a member abandons games, he should be reset to 1200 rating and all his history should be erased. Chess.com is just not doing enough to curb game abandonment.

It a player abandons too many games, as a percentage of recently completed games, the account gets restricted and must wait between pairings. Resetting ratings just makes the player get easier pairings and their opponents get harder ones than they normally would. You also can't reset history as games are played between two members and each one needs a member record to attach to for both sides

The algorithm should pair abandoners with other abandoners.

My understanding is that when players are in the poor sportsmanship pool they do primarily get paired with others in the pool. Members that abandon/disconnect/ stall/abort too often as a percentage of recently completed games get placed in that pool.

what if it's a female?

#6 unfortunately, people often use he to refer to a person with unspecified gender.

I have been called out for using they and corrected for using he. He is actually correct grammatically.

The APA recommends using they for gender neutral third person pronoun. Grammer as I understand it is determined either by arbitrary rules or by describing the way words are used. As far as the arbitrary rules approach I think most sources of authority in the US would say that it's better to use "they". In terms of the way people actually speak I don't think there is one common way in the US.

Problem is for whatever reason some of us get abandonment called on us when we have not abandoned at all. 30 moves in I get games called for abandonment giving opponent the win, literally only 30 -60 seconds after the last move with no warning I have been disconnected . Meanwhile opponents can let clock run down 8 minutes when they are getting beat rather than resign

I also got abandonment when I made the last move, wtf?

... and I also despise abandonment but I was waiting for his move, switched to WhatsApp and when I came back I got abandonment but my opponent didn't make a move... can it be explained? Support didn't answer me

It's currently possible to get disconnected on your opponent's turn and lose by abandonment. If you're on the app and you leave the app that can also be considered abandoning the game. It's also possible you were disconnected, your opponent moved, and your client never received it, though that would show as your opponent making the last move in archived game.

They shouldn't have their account reset, they should be taken outside and executed, by a firing squad, This also helps with net zero targets.

Just lost two games by abandonment. Was leading both of the, and the opponent’s time was running out. Then just suddenly the opponent’s move is registered and I am the one losing by abandonment. Had no connection issues or anything like that. Anyone else having similar issues?

Yeah, its happening quite often now. Not always when I am leading though
