There's a risk here that this is the sort of thing only a parent would find funny, but here goes anyway.
This is an approximation of a conversation between me and my son (he'll be three at the end of June) OTB last evening:
Me [holding a black Knight]: Where does this piece go?
Son: Das a horsey.
Me: In chess, the horsey piece is called a "Knight."
Son: Wot?
Me: A knight.
Son: Das a knight.
Me: Yes, very good.
Me [later, holding a white Knight]: Where does this Knight go?
Son: Das notta Knight.
Me: Yes, it is. Same as the other one.
Son: No, das notta same. Das a DAY! [Grabs black Knight] DAS a Knight!!
Darn that silent 'K'. I still can't convince him that all the horseys are 'nights'.
Any other stories from hopeful mentors of the very young? :-)
hahaha
