Peace dove as flair

Alright, I am going to bed.

(As said, I also would like chess.com to be more tolerant in this case, but I am ready to accept if they are not ...) - why would you accept this?
Ammerbucher

Because I can see reasons ... They do not want to have political (or even military) frontlines here on the site, but one peaceful community, where we play a game that is indeed based on military ideas, but play it as sports, and in a peaceful way, to bring people together, but let real-life conflicts outside ... (see also my comment #71 here on that ...)

Ammerbucher

... and because as a lawyer I am used to accept rules, even if I do not like them (or their effects) entirely, as long as they are not against human dignity or other fundamental principles ... tongue.png

A democratic and liberal country could not prohibit such discussions. But this still is a private site, so they can ...

But why accept it when you, and we, are the customers? There are other and better sites for chess. What I liked in the past was that Chess.com had a community, it was social, with a lot of wild and interesting discussions. Mostly political discussions. Now it’s all curbed and locked. Like I said, people are careful not to provoke the mods and begging them not to lock. It’s really sad to see.
Ammerbucher

Indeed… We are not forced to accept it - but the consequence would be to leave the site (either way).
And I for my part have been able to get in contact with some Ukrainians here, which I appreciate a lot, also to express my concern for peace (in this OP, but also by hosting a peace tourney with the colors of Ukraine), that’s better than nothing. And I noticed even a member with Russian flag supported my OP - this shows international understanding and mutual respect, and even if one can discuss about measures in detail, that’s what chess.com provides here, and this goes already much beyond just playing chess …

Ammerbucher

Just for better understanding: I was asked by a member why I would accept this ... And in another comment he replied that I am not forced to accept this ... It looks like he is muted now (for reasons he may have given here before ...), so his comments have disappeared. But I think it makes sense to leave mine nevertheless ...

Yet again (without judging singular cases or specific measures), I would hope chess.com could grant a little bit more of freedom of speech in this particular case ...

Actually it is not allowed to discuss politics in public forums. What you do in private club forums is the admins choice. According to the founder of this site.

I will respect this and refrain from posting in public forums, even if I disagree with the policy.

chess.com became a social network because of the functions offered, people talk with each other, many people feel a need to express thoughts. Not sure if it is a wise choice.

Just give us a peace dove as flair please

FrancisWeed

I support it and my thoughts are with the people in Ukraine

Still no decision by chess.com sadly (at least no positive).

The funny thing is chess.com sent out yesterday a message of concern in Cyrillic letters and Ukrainian language (ovbviously) to all who flag a Ukraine flag at the moment.

Thanks for that - honestly, English would have worked better for me ...

Here is a copy of the "Ukrainian" letter, with translation:

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/glory-to-ukraine?page=1#last_comment

They said they also sent a letter to Belarusian and Russian members, to spread the truth about the war. That's nice, honestly.

And the letter ends with "Glory to Ukraine".

That's even nicer. (Honestly, I wonder a bit if they wrote "Glory to Russia" to Russian members, but I assume they did not ...)

But then I ask again:

Why do you not allow a peace dove then (which is totally neutral per se), if you take party (!!) like that towards all members who flag Ukrainian, Russian or Belarusian colours. (Which I would not criticize, per se, in the contrary, but I admit I find this a contradiction ...)

Chess.com likes to express their concern. But they do not allow me (or better: give me the chance) to express my concern in an appropriate way. (The Ukrainian flag is just a crutch for me now - I am not Ukrainian, so I would prefer to flag German, but have a peace dove, which would even be more neutral than what I have now ...)

If we cannot agree on an (individiual) sign of peace here (just as an option, no one would have to use it), on what can we agree then?

Chess.com, what do you fear? Why do you refuse to fulfil this request?

Please give us the peace dove, or an explanation.

Ammerbucher

And just providently: This is NOT about politics, but about chess.com's policy ... And it is not forbidden in the TOS, as far as I can see, to discuss the latter ...

kAtalan_csaT

@Ammerbucher, I agree completely!!! We need the peace dove - we need hope, we need peace!

Andrea

Have you directly contacted @Erik

Ammerbucher

Nope ... But I know the issue has been adressed via different channels ...

But maybe I will now ... (I just will wait a bit, if I get a reaction here ...)

Andrea

you wait -  for what???

i will write him now, all other alternatives are useless, thought it was already done.

Let's see if anything happens of it, seems a fair and good idea and thing to do 😁

Andrea

I once (on Halloween) asked Erik in a message for the pumpkin flair - now we have it! tongue.png

So, i´m reasonable optimistic! thumbup.png

the only question is : when have they done it?

Ramon

I do not think he appreciates this discussion here. Just go through the right channels

I did a week ago. (Repeatedly. As many others.)
