No, the only way to stop a flame war is to ban the internets!
People Being RUDE!!!

Aren't they the same person with different accounts?
I don't think so. Karl may be one those letter of the law-enforcing users, but at least he doesn't act like a 12-year old kid about it.
Did you see what he blocked me for in today's thread?
You mean that argument about only stupid/random threads being hijacked?
Yeah, that. I asked him to provide a specific example to back up his claims, at which point he gave some vague answer, said something obnoxious about not having to respond to me, and blocked me before I had a chance to respond. Seems pretty childish to me.
Well in any case, it seems that Karl is capable of having fun.

Wait, are you saying Karl blocked you, TheGrobe? You?
Yeah, after I made post #10 here:
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/members-closing-their-accounts-and-then-opening-new-ones-right-away

Well, perhaps you can finally man up and muster the courage to explain yourself? We'd really appreciate it. Because right now it seems like you're just being petulant and closing off any possibility for discussion. And I'm sure we'd all love to think differently of you.

I just finished a game which concluded in an unfortunate manner for myself, and here is what this fiend said to me afterwards:
My opponent: gg
Me: How dare you, vile cretin! Pray you start writing a thesis of apology this instant, with at least twenty peer-reviewed sources indexed in CMS format as endnotes (not footnotes!), else you shall never know my unblock button! You know the Great and Rightfully Brutal Moderators shall chastise you for this!
And to add insult to injury, he NEVER DID send me his thesis! can you BELIEVE IT?!?!!? With the sort of behavior I see around here, I almost think that he may not have even got HALF WAY through.
Fortunately there is a powerful tool with which we are endowed to handle such miscreants: the "Ignore" feature. I believe this comes with even basic memberships to Life. By simply ignoring the above person's egregious behavior, I was able to move on with my life without too many heart and mental problems. One may even suppose that such a feature could be used widely to "ignore" people who are clearly beneath upstanding gentlemen such as ourselves, who, in our most solemn discourses, encounter the slovenly lower-classes who attempt to berate us with their despicable "humor" or appaling "disagreement" or, even worse, their criminal attempts to hijack threads which had once been proceeding, as all threads should, to an uninteresting conclusion.
Truly, we should not be exposed to such baleful acts on this most pure and clean thing which we endearingly call our Internets, but alas, the day is not yet come when the barbarous and ill-mannered shall be banished by some great iron-handed Moderator. But by our Ignorance, we may suffice until such a happy day comes, and be able to at least tolerate the presence of the unwashed vandals. You may congratulate and/or praise me for sharing this brilliant advice with a poem or ode- but please, no sonnets, for I am a humble and modest personage.
Sorry, but you have lost me entirely with this thread. The way I see it, your opponent using gg to express to you that they enjoyed the game they played against you. It is not an insult or intended to be an insult.
If you wrote back with this 'How dare you, vile cretin! Pray you start writing a thesis of apology this instant, with at least twenty peer-reviewed sources indexed in CMS format as endnotes (not footnotes!), else you shall never know my unblock button! You know the Great and Rightfully Brutal Moderators shall chastise you for this!' I would totally ignore you and block you, because there is no need to be so condescending because someone graced you with two letters 'gg'.
At least you got a comment. Not everyone will go to that length of wasting their time to write a message. They would prefer to go from one game to the next, hoping beyond hope that they winning their chess games. And maybe, just maybe you will find at least one person or a group of people that likes your style of play and you form a friendship.
Now I don't expect a reply but if you do and your comment is deemed derogatory, please expect no reply!!! However, if your reply is deemed respectable you may or may not get a reply.

Not biting. You have to figure it out for yourself. Sorry.
People see how I think and act here. Do I maliciously attack others for no reason? Members here can be their own judge on that. Blocking someone is not attacking them, on the contrary, it is a stab at trying to keep peace. You may think about that, if you like. Or not. It's up to you.
You aren't being reasonable, and continually saying you are and that it's 'up to the other person' won't make it so. You're just suppressing discussion. Account for your actions already!

Well... well... well, Ivandh! I hope you're happy with yourself...

I didn't know windows 7 was your flatmate.
lol. Tell me what was so unreasonable about my response, then?
