People keep quitting games while loosing. Gotta do something.

I am sick and tired of players who don't finish their games once they realize that they are gonna lose. Something really has to be done about it, cause it is fuc*ing annoying and time consuming. In like every 3-d game I have to wait 2 minutes until the time on my opponent's clock runs out so I can start another game. Whenever this happens I always report those players and block them but it just doesn't seem to be working. I don't know what kind of punishment those players get, but it is  definitely not enough. We need a karma system here like on other board games websites. Your perfect karma is 100 points, once you don't finish a game you lose 10 points, so you've got 90 now. You do it again - minus 10 points and you are left with 80. Once your karma is low other players can see it and refuse to play with you. For finishing a game you get +1 and recover you karma a bit. This system is perfectly working on boardgamearena and amount of quitters is 10 times less. It is really hard to find such players. What do you thinks?

Happens to me a lot.

But, you sign up for a e.g. bullet/blitz game and you immediately ought to count that time as "reserved".

Their actions, their problems kinda. It pisses me off as well but as soon as you "accept" that you've signed up for a game that might last a specific amount of time it will be easier to deal with those b*stards grin.png

Stay safe.

On the other hand I keep on getting hate msg for playing while in disadvantage. I do resign when there is no Channel but on my level people still blounder a lot and it is worth to defend. Still, abandoning games and not resigning is just wrong

At short time controls sometimes an opponent gets lost in thought and it isn't so much making an opponent wait out of spite as much as "there has to be a way out of this" type paralysis and two/three minutes goes by really quick when that happens.

I wound up making someone wait because I was honestly stumped that I wasn't in checkmate. It turns out en passant was my only safe move and I had a sort of lapse and didn't see it. It was about 90 seconds but might have looked like spite to my opponent.

Every time I take a queen they don’t just quit, they put their game down and leave the time to run out , I’ve waited 9 minutes before for someone to move , bad losers 🇮🇳🤬

They leave the game running in hope that you will quit

Huh, a lot of people on forums say it's unsportsmanlike to NOT quit. Either way, I don't think people should be punished for quitting or refusing to quit.

There is no such thing as "quit". What are you talking about? Resign? Abandon? Wait for your time to run out?

These threads are tiring.  You want to see what low class, lowlife behavior in online gaming looks like, play as a Guest for awhile.  Just try it, you'll see.

A year ago, playing as Guest was an enjoyable way to practice.  Today, it's a veritable sewer of bad sportsmanship.  Truly a garbage dump.

By "quit", I mean resign.

To clarify, "quit", means resign.

Bad sportsmanship - walking away when losing and making the other player wait out the clock is VERY common and VERY annoying here. It's appalling that nothing is done about it.

This crap has been going on here for years and they don't do a thing about it. I guess they feel they have the majority of the market share for on line chess and really could not care less if a few people leave for sites like Lichess. I made it a point to message a few of the lowlifes who abandon games rather than resigning or who just choose to let 4 minutes run off their clocks in 5 0 time control games and after having done that, Chess.com tells me that I am violating the rules by "abusing" them. If it wasn't for the fact that I run a club on this site, I would have been gone a long time ago.

Is Lichess better in this regard?

Blackmarawaits

Lichess is free, and although I do see people resign or stall there, for some reason, it does not seem to be as prevalent to me there.

Blackmarawaits

I think that is because Lichess does a better job with monitoring for poor sportsmanship.

tomwill1

OK Thanks I'll take a look. All the poor sports here really take the fun out of it.

AFK is a thing in online gaming. It can happen for a number of reasons. But getting upset over a 5 min game is kind of silly. And abusing players who don't resign is just the flip side of the same coin. Players who don't want both abusive stalling and comments practice poise, humility, and understanding and find it elsewhere. The abusiveness breeds more abusiveness, just manifest in differing ways.

I play 30 minute games and it is incredibly annoying and disrespectful to walk away when you are losing often with over 20 minutes on the clock. Resigning is the honorable choice, walking away is childish and poor sportsmanship.

"Karma ","gotta to do somthing" , funny comments coming from a Russian .
