Players Rated 2500+ But Not Titled (GM, NM etc.)?

I just looked at the forums and saw this user called Mattius. When I looked at his profile, he had 4000+ ratings on every type of gmae (blitz, bullet, etc.). But he wasn't titled. Does anybody have an answer to this?

What are you talking about? He doesn't have those ratings and never has.

He's rating is only 1400

Maybe 400+? Hmm, I also have 400+ everything and I'm not titled...

Whoops...I guess I just read it wrong.

I once had a Correspondence

fIDE rating of more than 2500-- but as it turns out I needed 3 more games

to get a permanent rating and I never played those three games.  [actually if you count the prelims to the United

States Correspondence Chess Championship--I had more than the 3 games needed but back then those games were apparently not rated even though they are now..]

Also, weirdly, back in 1973 I had a USCF rating of 2188 and played in

two tournaments which were to be USDCF rated and scored 4 wins and zero losses and zero draws in both tourneys and never became a National Master!

Weird to have such  a thing happen to me twice.

I seem to remember Gata Kamsky became a top 10 player without any title, maybe someone can verify?

This person IS titled, with a rating of 3004 on his homepage (<-- I encourage you to click on that link!), but when you look him up as a player to play on live chess, he shows up as a 2243.

3004= his bullet rating

2243= his blitz rating
