Players with a rating under 900 shouldn't be allowed to play chess

My comment was a joke, if you banned all people under 1200, good luck starting.

I agree, it's like two-year old children, you have to protect them from themselves and put them in an educational program instead. I suggest redirecting sub-900 players to rules & basics, chess mentor, video lessons, tactics trainer and online coaching whenever they click on a playing link. They're so slow that they probably won't even notice the difference.

This is a terrible idea (so terrible I don't think the original post was serious). Having bad players doesn't lower your ability to play. If its just to add prestige to the game then I think it would be counter productive. I think it would be better to have a lot of people play and enjoy chess than just to have only a certain amount of people play. A lot of people are learning too. I started in the 700s live standard but now I am in the 1300s. If have been banned I would never have become as good as I am now and wouldn't have developed the love for the game I have now. Grandmasters could easily say the same about you, if aren't a GM then you shoud be banned.

How is chess not already competitive? If a 800 plays a 1400 then its not competitive but if you watch matches and tournaments where players are similarly rated then whats not competitive about that?

Exactly, that is why I suggested to "challange up" instead of playing easy targets like a slimy Vulture.

Fail. Practise on other sources , internet is infinite and there are books... restrict to 900 is not that "unfair and injust" as you say.. if ur rating goes above 900 - then chess is definetely not for you.

Ok bringing a serious sense to this thread, watching u900's play is painful, Watching 1400's play for me, is painful. i am sure if magnus Carlsen saw my games he would cringe. and IM would probably cringe, that is beside the point. 

a. u 900 players are lousy at chess, it doesn't take that much to be better, so they should be banned.

bighusky22, you have a 1400 standard rating, which means you are a decent player, (probably though i haven't looked at your games. blitz ratings don't count really, neither do bullet.

1200 players think 900 players suck. 1600 players think 1200 players suck. 1900 players (hey, that's me!) think 1600 players suck. And 2100s think 1900 players suck. And masters think all of those players suck. All in all, 1200 players aren't that much better than 900 players. They both suck, in fact I'm not really sure what differentiates them...
