Premium Members are noticeably stronger?

In general premium members take the game more seriously as they commit money to it.
Hello all,
I've been a Gold/Platinum member for the best part of a year and a half, however, I've noticed that whenever i'm randomly paired with a player at my rating (1700~) who isn't rated, I tend to beat them handily.
Just wondering if there is a disparity in the rating pool between premium players and non paying members or if anyone has experienced the like?
