Naming all the cats "Bob"? In honor of "Tom", I imagineLaughing

Remember that huge power outage that took out the midwest in the middle of winter?  Being that my family lived in the farmlands, we were out of power for two and a half weeks.  I think it was below zero as well then.  I do remember sleeping under a lot of blankets buddled in several winter jackets and pants while tucked inside of a sleeping back to keep from freezing to death.  Our dog shoved me off my pillows to take them for himself along with the blankets.

Thank God for a gas stove to establish some sort of civilization.  No electricity needed.

The funny part is that the electricity bill for that month was 83cents.  Smile

We knew some people who had to wait quite a while also.  Took some wood over to this 90 year old lady with a 100 year old iron stove... there we were freezing bringing her this wood and her house was like a sauna.  I found out that day that iron stoves are incredibly effective.

and most efficient of all is if you've got other people schlepping your wood for you.  Cool

Is that why people used to have lots of kids back in the day?  One to cut the wood, one to mow the lawn, one to pick the berries...??? ;-)

Another quiet night in the forums. I'm kind of watching the Australian Open on ESPN3, and looking for a good thread to post pictures in. Like a Jesus thread, or a thread about ducks. I made a gin/tonic earlier in the day, but didn't drink it. So now I'm having a double gin/tonic, to catch up. Seems like there should be at least a few threads to make fun of? I guess I can always make fun of how incomprehensible the americans and australians write, but that's usually a last resort. It seems weird that there would be so many chess topics at a chess site? Hmmm...

Oh well, just some thoughts on a quiet night in the forums...

Just schlepping wood ought to warm you up a bit.
