Rating Opponent Sportsmanship?

is that sarcasm? :) i can't tell if that is a sincere hope, or something you would say to somebody who says they are going to jump off a cliff and land on their feet safely.

yeah, you aren't the first one. this is a small problem, but a serious irritation, for lots of people. we have been thinking about this since the inception of chess.com 2 years ago.
as to your other questions, players with less than 5 games have a provisional feedback rating that does not show up. new players will mostly be playing other new players i think. that is how it usually seems to work in my opinion.
Did you already install this feature? (gathered that from "..5 games have a..." instead of "...5 games will have a...")

When I play, especially as I get towards the end of the middlegame, I tend to take allot longer than the 1st half of the game. People get upset because I went from making a move every 5-10 minutes to a move every 5 to 10 hours. Sometimes I need to think about it overnight if I've had a long day. This is why turn based chess is what I like to play. IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE SOMEONE TAKING 3 DAYS FOR A TURN, DON'T PLAY A 3 DAY GAME!! Patience people! If anyone complains, I consider that a bad player, and I guess now I will be able to rate them so...

yeah. we'll change it so that post-comment you go to the last page.

Usually the ones complaining about that are kids who join Chess.com, start a dozen games, swear at everyone who doesn't make a game quickly and forget about Chess.com a few days later. I haven't seen many others complaining about me taking too much time other than such kids.

Make the rating system optional for those who do not wish to be rated or wish to rate others. It would be up to the player to decide if they want to play someone who does not use the system.

i guess we COULD do that...

It would discourage the unsportsmanlike players from using it and encourage sportsmen to use it and thus helping to determine who you want to play

very nice idea. by the way i haven't faced a very very rude person. something like... being asked for a draw when ur oponent is about to get checkmated... i find those kind of people not rude, but naiive. however this idea is crazzy good. one question though; will our sportsmanship be written next to out ratings & will everyone's sportmanship start at 1200? or 0?

I think there are some good suggestions to help make this effective, might I suggest a couple more:
- Losing player always rates first -- this will give the winning player the opportunity to respond (via the reciprocal sportsmanship rating) to players who rate low due to losing
- If there's a desire to make it manditory, when you have an outstanding sportsmanship rating you're unable to make moves in your ongoing games or start new ones until you fulfil your obligation to rate -- this will ensure losing players don't simply "not rate" to avoid a bad rating in response (only really necessary if the first suggestion is adopted)

"seems to encourage giving lots of people GOOD feedback even if they are just neutral"
I probably will hand out many GOOD ratings, because everyone I have played on chess.com so far has displayed good sportsmanship.
