ratings inflated

I know ratings mean nothing its just a number but it seems like all of our numbers have to be inflated, because of abandonments.

I an only concerned with daily but it stinks when our rating is inflated due to people timing out.  I get that some time out because they are losing, but I have had some people better than me in very close games time out for whatever reason. Its almost as if I want to tell chess.com back out these matches, and give me a real rating.

Poop is a valuable commodity, depending on the species of course. The N in chicken manure is highly sought after. So please don't compare poop to a rating. 🤭

Not sure how much more 'real' ratings would be. But I get your point.

Keep in mind

• Game abandonment is an additional factor of variance. You have greater determination than your opponents to finish your games which increases your rating. At some point you might also face real life challenges that require all your attention and makes daily chess games seem irrelevant (maybe a dying relative, maybe covid, maybe a new job or just a new girlfriend, could be anything). If that were to happen now you would lose 31 games, probably half of them winnable. These losses caused by external factors would theoretically cancel out you wins due to abandonment. Consider it a buffer of wins rather than an inflated rating.
• As your rating increases, game abandonment will decrease. At least, that's my expectation.

Yeah, I just had about 3 wins in a row on technicalities. I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have kept the rating I had, though I suppose it will correct itself shortly.

Your rating is always relative to others in the system, so even if there’s some inflation due to abandonments, it applies across the board.
