What is your settings set to?
Recent changes in game analysis
Hi Martin, thank you for your help!
I am using the web version and cannot find any settings related to game review. The changes I mentioned above have just happened on their own.
I should note I'm a free member. Are these settings not available to free members, or are they only in the phone app but not the web version? Or may be they are in the web version but I'm not looking in the right place?
I finally found the setting for this that you showed. It is not in the main settings menu. It is only in the settings menu that is in the upper-right corner of the board while you are actually in a game review. At least that is where I found it.

I think the game analysis value is reduced greatly. I don't learn anything from having the voice tell me my opponent or I missed something or did something dumb if it doesn't show me what the "right" move would have been. I used to learn a lot from that, but now I learn very little from a game analysis.
Well, actually, what you are looking at is not analysis at all, but "Game review".
What you should look for is a small "magnifying glass" icon in the bottom row. That will bring you to the Analysis page. Not only does it show you the best move, but the 3 best moves, along with the engine evaluation of each, and it also lets you try any move you like, as deep as you want.
Additional benefit: no dumb machine voice.

I have to say that needing to go to the analysis mode to just see the functionality we used to have in review mode is kind of dumb. This is a really bad change.

Review was always clumsy and bad. They may have made it even more useless, but that's not an easy task. Using Analysis was always superior, and probably always will be.
Thank you, Martin, for the screenshot showing that a setting existed. It was hard to find though. It would be nice if the master "Settings" page that is available all the time in the lower-left corner of the web version actually contained all settings -- then I would have been able to find it without asking for help.
Sorry everyone that I incorrectly called Game Review "analysis" originally. I haven't used Analysis, and in my mind "analysis" and "review" were synonyms just based on vernacular usage. "Best Move" does still exist in Game Review, it just appears to have gotten turned off by a site update. You have to find the settings gear that is inside Game Review itself (upper-right corner of the board) to re-enable it, if yours got turned off too.
I have only been here a few months but have already seen two major changes to the features in the game analysis. Originally it would show you the best move for each side with a green arrow as well as letting you see the best line for each move. The first change, maybe a couple months ago, replaced that second part with only occasionally letting you see the best line for specific events, like "Show Missed Tactic." The third change, around April 1, 2025, now removed showing you the best move with a green arrow. So now you never see what the engine thinks was the best move unless it happens to be a special event where it gives you a button AND you click on that button (which then might show 5 or 10 moves -- takes up quite a bit of time).
Without the green arrows showing the best move for each player at each step, I think the game analysis value is reduced greatly. I don't learn anything from having the voice tell me my opponent or I missed something or did something dumb if it doesn't show me what the "right" move would have been. I used to learn a lot from that, but now I learn very little from a game analysis.
Can the "best move" feature be brought back?
