Remise because of material and time??

So in a game where I am clearly losing, I try to outsmart my opponent by capitalizing on the time advantage I have. As soon as his timer hits 00.00, however, I get a "1/2" because of "material." I only had my king left, but should that matter?? His timer hit 0, so I won, right? Why am I being punished with a draw although my opponent's time ran out..??

Your opponent can't win because he has no time to make his moves.

You can't win because you have no pieces left to mate.

So: a draw.

Wits-end

One way to look at it, you actually were rewarded with a draw as opposed to a loss. Without this rule, you’d play another 3,000 moves until one or both become bored and tired and agree to a no-win. (Draw)

Making bad moves faster than your opponent can is "outsmarting your opponent"?

You seem to have set the bar for "superior intellect" fairly low.

I know reading is hard, but if you re-read my post you can see that the outsmarting part comes after the making bad moves part. No need to try and insult me. Cheers.
