Resignation Notifications - Does Chess.com Have a Consistent Method?

Playing a 1 day per move game, in the end game phase of the game, time between moves was often many hours.  Works great for me.  Between my slow study the board way of playing, coupled with weekend activities - being the primary cause for delay on my end, not sure about my opponent.  This said, this most recent game was a really good game.   Other than one blunder, opponent seemed really adept at dodging what I thought was a sure mate in 2, at least twice in the game.  All this to say, my opponent had some crafty mate averting skills - I was enjoying playing and learning from him/her.   Full disclosure - my end game is not that polished, not that the rest of my game is, but I fully own that I have a lot to learn - all around.

All this to say that I was looking forward to picking up the game today after I returned from a long ride this afternoon.   When I opened up the game on my return to see he/she had yet to make a move.   So I checked back a few times this eve, still no move.

It was only when I checked email hours later that I found notice of resignation.

Question is - should resignations not be apparent on the game screen?   This is the 2nd time this has happened to me.  Normally I would just think this is an uncommon glitch but I have only played about 20 or so games on Chess.com so far, so two instances seems a bit too frequent an occurrence.

And…I do know that I have received notice of a couple resignations on the game screen.    Believe all the on screen and email occurrences were always on classic games with 1 or 3 day moves set up.  Not blitz or rapid, tried these but I am too green and wanting to learn, so need study time.

Am I missing a setting or is this how this works?

Thanks - and BTW.  I am really enjoying getting back into chess.  Chess.com has been a good way for me to both play and learn.    Only had 2 crappy opponent experiences, generally been a good experience.
