Yes a bit.I think that people do it when they do not want to play the game, but do not want to lose any points.
Have you ever experienced this: you accept a challenge, and then they resign after only one move? I have and to me this is one of the most annoying things I run across.
Wonder if they would do that in an OTB game, when they were face to face with their opponent. Bet that would make for some interesting conversation

If they do that in an OTB tourney match, they might get in trouble with USCF and/or be baned from tourneys. If you know anything about tourneys, there are at least 3-4 hours between each round.
I considered resigning on Move 1 in a game I didn't realize had a 14 day interval, which I dislike. Because it was a team game, it couldn't be aborted. I decided to play on, and my opponent lost on time!!
It was 1 c4 1-0 (Fischer-Panno, Palma De Mallorca 1970)
Do you happen to know why Panno resigned?
I do it sometimes, whenever i play live...Its annoying if you play bullet and sum1 break your concentration to think whatever his first or second move might be, it just a game. Maybe it was disconnecting, anyhow, when he opens his eyes, I'm long:D gone. By the time he feel anger, Im already busy with another game!...Time is a component of chess, we shouldn't waste it. - come to think of it, he might have beaten me taking his time, would that be fair?
In those situations something came up... he/she wanted to start a game, but then things got interrupted when one of his/her kids got hurt...
or maybe the phone rang and it was the opponent's boss...
etc. etc.
I did this once on this site. I had joined a 1. b3 tournament since I've been a blitz fan of the opening. Problem is, I did a background check on the TD and found him to be obviously cheating with engine help (his USCF rating was class B, while his record on chess.com was an undefeated 2600+). So rather than be subject to his cheating, I withdrew from the tournament on the spot without playing any moves. Problem is chess.com doesn't have a minimum moves required for ratings change policy, so each of the games was scored as a loss for me and my 2100 rating went down to 1700. I've been slowly climbing back up the rating ladder, but next time I'll make sure to do the research before I enter tournaments on here.
Wrong! The minimum is 4, unless your opponent resigns or is checkmates, but if he runs out of trime before thoes 4 moves are complete, ratings stay the same.
