This is the bit I don't agree with.  Why should he be remembered for his openess?  Why hold him up as some sort of shining example of maturity and as a couple of posters put it 'guts'.

I think it is a shame, and wrong, that people who do things wrong and then apologise/make good/etc/etc are then given more accolades than those here that don't do anything wrong to start with!

Fellow chessmate Suggo, I used the word "remembered" within its strictest context.  It isn't a form of an accolade or the like, coz we all abhor cheating.

Thus, for this unhappy incident, I'll simply remember 1-his apology for cheating, 2-his openness on his cheating , and 3-his pledge not to come back anymore to this site.

Now, how about a game of chess? Just kidding... (",)

Why would you want to remember his openness?

I wouldn't term it as "I want to",

but simply "I remember in that unhappy incident that he apologized, eventually opened up, and pledged not to make a comeback in this site."

So there, just a statement of facts.

I don't get what your point is. I remember stepping in a dog turd last week..

ChessDweeb

Did you have your shoes on?

You said you remembered his "openness" which did not exist.

Ok, it was just that you had writtern it as "To be remembered" and you also included the past contribution in the same statement.  This indicated to me that you wanted to remember these things as positives from this.

ChessDweeb

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. Because I've actually stepped in Polar Bear dung and it was nasty.

Anyways, I think that it's good that the cheating fellow had a concious. If it makes him feel better to confess his sin good for him. I'd feel better if he was strung up by his nads for awhile. I despise dishonorable people. We are what we do in life. Most people never change either.

CPawn

I dont understand what stringing him up by his nads is going to accomplish besides your self satisfaction?  He admitted to cheating...he left....he apologized....and that isnt enough?

ChessDweeb

By cheating he was also a thief. He stole time from people's lives by posing to be something he wasn't. I think that every game he ever played should be expunged from the system, that would be enough. People that cheat at chess would probably rob their own grandmother of her social security check.

You are definitely correct, it wouldn't accomplish much but my own satisfaction. And probably others that he beat with the help of modern technology.

People like to make outragous claims to justify their positions don't they!

So, let's move on and play chess?

Kupov

God some people take everything seriously.

ChessDweeb

You are all too funny. Believe it or not, I really don't care if the guy cheated. But since he was caught, I do think it would be fair that all of his wins should be deleted from the system and his opponents ratings adjusted accordingly.

And he should give his grandmother her check back.

Trant

No wonder prisoners have such good FIDE ratings.

Kupov, I heard your place Banff is a beautiful place. Is it true?

ChessDweeb

Trant.......How did you know I am in prison????? Do I know you? Are you on another computer in the prison library messing with me? It's not funny man. You know when I get stressed the voices start telling me to do strange things. Did you hear that? It's my cell mate telling me it's almost lights out.

hearneyator
