Scammers on chess.com? beware

Is anyone aware of known social engineering scams on Chess.com? What is being done about it?

I recently received a request for. Daily game that seemed a little off? First, it was unusual because the person was no way near my rating. Second, the profile picture was of a pretty girl with bare shoulders. Well pretty girls can play chess too I thought but I was really ignoring the alarm bells that were going off on my head.

As soon as the game started the person chatted asking where was from in the US” more warning bells. So I check this persons profile. They had lost all of their games but one. Why had the one game been lost. The opponent resigned six moves in when they were winning? Why did they resign? Because, the pretty pictured profile was being too chatty and asking for personal information.

I reported this profile to chess.com? I am posting this so the community can watch out and learn from each other. What is chess.com doing about it? And to you cybercriminals out there getting paid to collect peoples personal information: “whatcha gonna do when they come for you”? Find a real job.

I get those occasionally. I block, report and move on.

Staff look at reports and can see if anything against the TOS is happening.
