At the 1000 level, tactics is the key. Try using the tactics trainer here, or at a different site (chesstempo.com is great).
Also, slow down. 15-30 minute live games are optimal for your skill level. Blitz is all about pattern recognition, and you don't have that yet. Play these slower games, check whether all your pieces are protected, look for simple tactics such as forks or discovered attacks (both the ones you could play, and the ones your opponent might threaten). Think about each of the moves, make each move with a purpose.

Greetings. I've been a chess player nearly all of my 24 years, but possess nearly no skill at it. My current rating on Chess dot com is roughly 1000, on blitz live and on the online games as well. My question to anyone willing to answer it is what would i have to do to get better at this game? Any advice i should get would be helpful.
