That thread probably got locked because some angry little people were bickering and it got tiresome.

And the broke the ToS how?

Actually there's 10x more bickering in many other threads that don't get locked

I would imagine in this case because the bickering was about a sensitive topic.

It would be nice if some of the threads that involve 10 year olds bickering about random nonsense were removed, but alas that doesn't happen.

Ubik42
i can personally vouch for that
Ubik42
I meant that in response to batgirl. it took me a long time to write that post because I was trying to swipe type “that” and got stubborn trying to see how many words it would go through before it accepted such a rare word.

I really don’t understand swipe to type algorithm. tar, teat, taft, tart, that’ll, many words I didn’t even know. I think about 25 words before it got what I meant.

That used to work better.

I meant to tell you in the now-locked thread that I've been finding your comments reasonable and well considered.

As chess.com has many Brazilians users it should respect that norm or at least take an action about @forajudeu, the owner of the Brazilian NAZI club, which nickname means "jude out"!!

Somebody must be monitoring this thread because @forajudeu's account's been closed.

I would suggest in the future if you run across Nazi (or any disturbing content) that you not file a report but contact a mod or staff member by message.  It's faster and usually far more effective.

It seems to me that the rules regarding when a thread should be locked, have been somewhat relaxed lately . There are a few threads floating around now , that would’ve got the boot 🥾 awhile back .
Woollensock2
I think the rules should be relaxed in the Christmas period, as a gesture of goodwill towards all chess.com members , allow them to let their hair down during the festive season .

Wow. That thread from the get-go attracted the worst commenters, the dude with the glasses trying to look cool about casual racism, that other guy saying genetics is their cause of racism so they're been "involuntarily racists" lol. If anything, that thread totally deserved the lock.

Whether it did or didn't  deserve to be locked isn't the question. The question is whether it or comments too numerous to moderate broke the ToS.

To be more precise I'll have to read the ToS in detail. But as all social networks, I'm sure discussions about sensitive topics are put in lockdown more often than not because in the guise of discussion, you get sometimes the most outrageous and dated ideas as it was the case. It's just not worth it for the page to monitor day and night the thread to delete the comments if they can just simply shut the whole thing off

Then read the ToS (posted below)
Again,  for the third time, I have no misgivings about any thread being locked - that's chess.com ultimate prerogative-  I'm questioning the proffered reason or excuse for locking this particular thread.

or the Posting rules (which weren't alluded to)

Chess.com is a global community and we hope to be civil, friendly, and helpful to one another. We try to keep it that way by following a common set of rules for posting. We do not tolerate:

  • hate speech, racism, or ideological persecution
  • threatening or aggressive personal attacks
  • obscene or pornographic material

Additionally, the following behaviors are not allowed in the main public forums and chat rooms:

  • hijacking of threads with off-topic posts or images
  • persistent stalking and harassing
  • offensive or vulgar language
  • religious or political debate
  • spammy/pointless/distracting posts
  • discussion of illegal activities (drugs, etc)
  • advertising competitive sites
  • cheating

Club/Group forums are not moderated except for reports of hate speech, threatening personal attacks, or obscenity. If you are found unable to follow these rules, you may have your posting abilities restricted.

When you participate in our community please remember:

  • be kind - treat others how you would like to be treated; they are human like you
  • be helpful - build others up, don't tear them down; everyone has needs
  • be forgiving - everyone has bad days and we aren't always on our best behavior; give everyone the patience and tolerance you would want
  • be tolerant - other people have opinions

The following are our moderator action policies:

  • topics that begin with racism, personal attacks, or obscenity will be immediately deleted. if a user does it a 2nd time, they will be warned. after a 3rd time they will be restricted from posting (muted).
  • non-relevant topics which do not violate our posting rules will be moved to Off Topic
  • comments in the main forums/chat that violate the rules will be deleted
  • comments in the off-topic or private group forums will be handled with as much tolerance as possible within reason
  • moderators may delete posts, or edit to remove offensive material and include an explanation
  • moderators may not, however, make any other comments in other members' posts
  • moderators will treat all members the same without any special privileges

Just don't conflate racism with discussions about racism.

The posting rules do, however, define how incidences of racism, if they are perceived as such, as handled.

Someone using that word and the following word as an insult should be kicked off the site. Simple as that. It is totally unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Any other major site you bar people for insulting racist language like that.

Us the dictionary to look up the word!

ABSOLUTELY

iSpaceChess

TheBestBeer_Root

racism is outright disgusting

Why thank you. Someone has to be rational around here ☺️

The OP of that thread had made their point, the thread then descended into anarchy. It just seems common sense to stop a thread at that point.

TheBestBeer_Root

yo iSpacegoof… YOU with that ridiculous video should CLEARLY BE banned ASAP

TheBestBeer_Root

.

TheBestBeer_Root

That thread descended into anarchy because THE OP WAS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT !

lukeluke00

I think quite a few of the posts fell under the racially objectionable clause.

TheBestBeer_Root

….most definitely
