So what exactly are the rules about discussing other chess sites?

Now now, no need to hurt his pride.
And judging for his avatar I can only assume he has plenty of that

i can't follow the bacon raid discussions because of all this on-topic chatter. this is terrible.
I can assure you that although you guys are spending all of this time and effort trolling, nobody is bothered by it in the least. We can easily still have a conversation around it and these are not my forums. I don't care if you make a mess of threads.
Speaking of messes...

@ Preggo: My opinion of people is not low. I simply call things as they are without sugar coating because let's be honest: Lying certainly isn't nice at all.
Ok, but I think Erik is being realistic. This site is nothing more than a business.
And even if he isn't greedy, he has at least some responsibility to his employees i.e. to keep paying them. It makes sense to be focused on profits.
What difference does it make now? As said: The cat's totally out of the bag and these other sites aren't a "secret". We link games from them all the time. We discuss them all the time. Threads like this exist all the time that only generate tons of hits toward the other sites. Erik is trying to control something that he can't. It's silly and immature.
Hmm, maybe.
As long as it's in passing, and people aren't typing the name over and over so it gets picked up by google search crawlers (or whatever they're called) I think they don't care.

Looks like some crazy cult like stuff to me.
Yeah, but I'm afraid mods will be cranky if we talk about it.
I mean, obviously you make something like that your avatar you're wanting comments... but not sure the mods would like it.
I guess that's just another way to troll.

The popular phrase “bring home the bacon” can be traced to the twelfth century, in the English town of Dunmow. The church in the town promised to reward a side of bacon to any married man who swore before God and the congregation that he would not quarrel with his wife for a year and a day. The husband who could bring home the bacon was highly esteemed by his community.

In the Second World War, bacon played an important role during the time of rationing. It gained popularity as reasonably priced meat for families to consume on a regular basis. People returned the bacon grease left from cooking bacon to their butcher, who in turn donated the bacon fat to the war effort. Among many uses, bacon fat was used as incendiary devices and for making explosives.

The oath to be taken was very similar to the one at Whichnoure, that "neither of them in a year and a day, neither sleeping or waking, repented of their marriage".[16] The couple are required to kneel on sharp stones in the churchyard while taking the oath and a verse was chanted;[14]
You shall swear by custom of confession,
That you ne'er made nuptial transgression;
Nor, since you were married man and wife,
By household brawls, or contentious strife,
Or otherwise at bed or board,
Offended each other in deed or in word,
Or since the parish clerk said, Amen,
Wished yourselves unmarried again,
Or in twelvemonth and a day,
Repented in thought any way,
But continue true in thought and desire,
As when you joined hands in holy quire.
If to these conditions without all fear,
Of your own accord you will freely swear,
A whole gammon of bacon you shall receive,
And bear it hence with love and good leave:
For this is our custom at Dunmow well known,
Tho' the pleasure be ours, the bacon's your own.

Post 64; "Honestly, Cote: Do you realize that you're an extremely unintelligent soul? There's a common theme in your posts of you just not understanding what you're talking about at all". I'm gonna have to plead guilty as charged. I spent the day BUTCHERING
a 3-D puzzle of London Bridge.

Bribing people with bacon to pretend to tolerate their spouse, and making them kneel on sharp stones and chanting an oath to prove it.
Lovely

It was nor Icytoottoot who wrecked this viral discussion, but me, inadvertantly by a simple typing error of the word Peril.
For which, I apologise profusely and sincerely, and you had better believe me when I say that.
OK?
So, what was the topic again?
Other sights, I see.
Toot Toot, Toutes mes amis.

tous mes amis, non?
edit: i wonder if that makes me the grammar resistance ...
Too right!
Tous, it are.

Spamming and trolling the forum from multiple temporary accounts may well be the work of people supposedly policing the forum. They want a larger budget, more staff and power. Will they succeed?

Conspiracy theories? The moderators aren't paid: every single one of us would love it if we weren't necessary and people were "helpful, kind and respectful". We do NOT bait people into breaking the Terms of Service.
Apart from the aspect of advertising, there's also what others have mentioned about the arguments that it generates, which is especially pointless because both Chess.com and their competitors continue to modify and update and change their offerings, so even if something was true at one point in time - which is often debatable in itself - it may not be so any longer.
As for other sites having forums, I'd recommend trying to discuss Chess.com on there and see how you go. But really, the best play to discuss multiple sites is in a separate location without ties to any particular site itself - I think Reddit was mentioned?
Personal attacks against anyone are not acceptable either - @CoffeeAnd420, I think your disparaging comments about @erik are borderline at best - please stop.
I am now locking this thread.
