some thoughts on optimizing Live Chess

Hi - to the developers - I know nothing of your back end or how you are handling network traffic but a couple of things about the live chess UI might bear a second look:

--the chat window: personally, I don't use it but clearly many people do. I usually collapse the window just to avoid the distraction. I'm wondering: if the window is in the collapsed state, is it still getting updates? That seems like a waste of bandwidth, with data getting pushed out that is of no value to me (and others who may wish to "opt out" by collapsing the window.

--the seek stats window: it's a nice thing but I am not sure how useful it is. If that tab is not active, is it still getting a data feed? If so, I'm not sure I see the need for that.

--friends tab: this is useful even if it isn't an active tab. How often is it being refreshed? Is it polling or pushing out an update only when a new player joins Live chess

--games tab: this is probably the most data intensive since games are constantly changing, etc. and there is a lot of data to push out. If the tab is not active, updating the game count displayed in the tab would be sufficient.

Anyway - maybe you are doing all this sort of thing and more but I just thought I would toss out some thoughts. Mostly Live Chess works pretty well for me.

Hello. Thank you for your ideas for optimizing the Live Chess. We are currently working on a totally new Live Chess which will be much improved from the current version. I am sure many of these ideas you have brought up will be considered.
