Stay Safe! Spammers Everywhere

I figured there are LOTS AND LOTS of these “loan” thingy majigs. I don’t know why. Even the ‘Phantom Mute’ can’t stop it. Someone is literally spamming a chess website with loan things. I think this is getting out of control. Someone should make a new rule that says, ‘once you’re banned, you can’t make a new account on that device any more.’ I feel like that’s a pretty good rule the Chess.com Team needs to apply or else these people will keep spamming the forums and chats with ‘loan stuff.’ F.Y.I, why are all the people spamming with ‘loan’ all using the Indian flag? That’s weird. MODERATORS AND ADMINS, HELP THE CHESS.COM PLAYERS WITH THESE SPAMMERS PLEASE.

See? What did I say? These ‘customer care helpline number and loan app customer care’

I don’t think it’s ’customer care’ it’s not caring for the customers of Chess.com. HAHA

Just report and ignore them. Mods will get to it

Chess.com is aware of the problem and, I have been told, a solution is in the works. As it stands, moderators can do more than delete the spam and close accounts. It isn't possible to identify anyone, or anyone's device, since you only need an email address to create a new account. So, yes, it's a revolving door, and moderarors can do little more than play whack-a-mole. A more proactive approach will be implemented soon, most likely a restriction on forum use by new accounts, as happens at Lichess and used to happen here, and, possibly, a filter of some kind.

What if the account was hacked and the person who owned it cant make a new one

You just need a new username and a new email address.

You bring up a good point. Is the person (or persons) who are spamming now going to be using the same computer or IP address in the future once they are banned?

What, if anything, is chess.com blocking? A username? An IP address? A MAC address? That's none of my business and I don't care, just get it done...

You need an email address and a new username, nothing more. IP addresses belong to your ISP and are almost always shared... despite the common misconception, they do not identify individual devices or households.
