Still hate v3 - Feedback

Hey. I feel like providing some feedback now that I've been forced to use v3 for a good while. There is a good chance someone reading this may not care, if so please just don't read it. We'll all be happier. It isn't going to improve anyone's life, and I don't have the answers to improving it. Just giving honest feedback in case it spurs ideas for improvement.

It has been a while stuck on v3 now. I've been playing a few live games a week while working on a couple daily chess games. I usually do my five tactic trainer puzzles. I do the daily puzzle.

Back on V2 I was a diamond member for some years (five?). My front page would show news, which I would read two-three articles a week. I would watch two-three videos a week, play a similar number of games as now, and spend time with tactics trainer. There was nothing I felt bad about on the site.

Enter now. I read the headline for the one article that appears on the front page without scrolling, check the top bar to see if my daily chess games are up, then do the daily puzzle. Scroll down to see what other articles are on the page, then get irked that I had to scroll if I didn't want to read any of them. No videos seem to ever be on offer, and I feel like I'm on a chess blog instead of the site of chess programming.

I do my tactics trainer, where I feel a pang of disgust (sorry, but I do) at how ugly it is compared to before. I'm momentarily annoyed at not seeing the timer showing how long to score points on the puzzle, but that passes. After doing any puzzles that either confuse me or pique interest, I hit the comments button. Flash of annoyance while I mouse over to hit said button when I previously would have already seen comments at the bottom of my screen.

Finally, I still like to play a game or two of live. When I enter the live match screen, I hit the second tab to look for a game. I used to browse what games were available to see if they were interesting, but the Open Challenges in V3 does not work. Perpetually empty. I choose which time control I want to play and hope someone else either has a Challenges that works or else chooses my time control in my rating spread. While searching some graphic of people's faces on a map in the space that I used to see other challenges that might come up, and it makes me angry until I force myself to look at the board. During the games I don't notice anything out of the ordinary, but the buttons to offer draw or resign cause me stress when I search for them and they don't pop out at me. After the game I often watch through from the beginning, and that feels okay.

So, that is how I currently experience chess.com. I very much enjoyed the commentary by chess.com on twitch, and whatever piece I watched with Danny and Anna. I miss the lack of stress I felt using the old site; While I still enjoy the content here overall, if someone who knows me asks me if I still play chess my answer is that I play online, rather than before when I would generally talk about the site. I've lost that passion, after really enjoying (and happily paying for) the v2 version of the site.

It doesn't bother me if any of it seems petty, I don't want to not like it. I'm stuck with how it makes me feel, and it currently doesn't feel great. It did before. The only thing that has felt great has been the live commentary, which was fantastic. I'm thrilled with that, great job.

It's not petty. Your first post after eight years; 18,000 tactics and 1700 bullet games.

It was well said and thought out. I hope someone responds from chess.com.

One thing I didn't see was any complaint about lag. I would think that would be paramount to a bullet player.

Ah cheers. I participated in one of the v2/v3 threads back when it was in the works, I don't think anyone needs to respond, I just hope they're working on it. CBC recently ruined their news site for the same reason as chess.com (increasing mobile traffic).

While any lag is unfortunate, I haven't had enough to bother me. If others are experiencing more than I am I'd be concerned though!
