From what I understand, humor blogs don’t normally win, it’s usually the sound, well-written, instructive blogs that win

That is true. That is the pattern I've seen. But the blogs chosen aren't stale either, and not many of them focus on analysis or recaps so it's not a consistent topic that wins either.

It has a subject that people of all ratings will see and be interested in, and the good humor makes them come back. Unless they can't appreciate good humor. But even then, they should enjoy the perspectives on chess.

It was a nice change from most of the blogs on Chess.com. It was funny without being forced, and focused on a topic that everyone can appreciate and laugh at.
