The new capture doesn't really sound like a higher quality version of the old sound to me. If anything I could maybe see it being a lower quality version, like if the old one were re-recorded on a microphone. The old one actually sounded like two wooden pieces clanking against each other, whereas the new one kind of sounds like someone snapping their fingers to me. I find it pretty unpleasant and distracting.

I, too, dislike it. I made a suggestion to them via the ? button on the bottom left of the page to change it, or at least make it so you can turn that sound off, but retain the 'piece moving' sound, which I like. They've also introduced a very annoying 'BLOOP!' when you complete a puzzle. I've got the sound down as low as I can now, but I wish they would change it, or make it optional at least.
I'd also like to add that for me it isn't just Puzzle Rush that has this capture sound anymore. Previously I only heard it during Puzzle Rush and on analysis boards, but beginning yesterday I hear it during every live game as well. I actually wrote a little Chrome extension to replace it with the old sound for now, but it would be great if they could officially restore it (or at least give an option). I sort of wonder based on DeepGreene's response if new effect wasn't what was intended and maybe a bad mp3 file got included by accident.
