this is a chess site not a breast site

I had the same problem when I posted a picture of a female chest for my avatar.  Though in the pervs' defense, I am quite the boob on the board.

For the record, I am not a dirt road through a forest.

I have never understood why anyone would post an avatar of a real person anyway if its not actually them ? Ofcourse I am not really a cat but I just assume that there is noone out there who might think I am.

This liar and imposter should be exposed for indecency and false advertising. If he's not ACTUALLY a cat, then why should we acknowledge him for being a National Master?

What I find ridiculous is that these guys are hitting on girls they will probably never meet, or talk too outside this website! That is just pathetic and sad,if these guys would bother to hit on girls face to face instead of on chess.com they might find better luck in nabbing a girlfriend. I guess it's easier on their ego if they get rejected online instead of up close and personal. C'mon guys... take a chance and put yourself out there in front of girls in your hometown, not here on chess.com! Besides it makes you look like a desperate loser when you hit on girls here, and most girls I know find desperate losers to be a major turn off. If your too shy to hit on women face to face, spare the rest of us who are here to play chess, and do it on a DATING WEBSITE.

It's not desperate, it's called initiative. You never know what can happen, "Hey beautiful" could lead to an "I do" later on. Plus the disable chat option is always availible for the men or women being hit on. I said men because women do the same thing, but from the look of your picture you wouldn't know anything about it.

Please!.... I get more play from women on one friday night than you have probably ever gotten in your life. At least I had the guts to post my own picture, unlike you who chose to hide what you look like behind some dumb South Park avatar. Grow a pair, and post a real pic of yourself. Besides I have been complimented on my looks a couple of times by female players on this site. Can you say the same South Park guy? No? then quit runnin your mouth about peoples looks.

he he.  you said boob.

ILLYRIA

One of my internet handles is "The Boob."

In related news, someone called Popinjay posted earlier in the thread, obligating me to quote this partial conversation between 2 military officers from Catch 22

"What kind of name is Popinjay?"

"It's Popinjay's name, sir!"

And lastly, that [pimpskills] post got it right when it told people to stop licking computer screens.   Also, check out my hot bod.

In the site's defense, while there are definitely creeps out there, there are many people here that are fine. In my experience, though, it can be quite disturbing to have somebody trying to make an advance. I've only had to deal with one particular experience, but I have a friend who seems to attract those sorts of people, and she complains to me every once in a while because, quite frankly, they've said very intimidating things to her, beyond telling her that they like her appearance.

I really appreciate friendship and making friends, and I don't draw conclusions unless a person gives me an outward reason for that. And, although the 'disable chat'  is available, females on the site shouldn't have to deal with constant advances from their opponents so much that they need to disable or block somebody.

Whether an opponent has a fake photograph or not, my point is that sometimes, people go beyond the basic complement and that, in itself, is disrespectful unless your advances are  welcomed.

It is a site on which to play chess; women don't generally log on, thinking that they might find their next boyfriend through a game of online chess. (Unsafe as I believe the practice would be, I won't voice my qualms with that idea.)

mynd_zye

Reality check here: chess players, at least all of the ones I have met, happen to be human. I know this is sometimes rather difficult to believe, but its true.

Therefore, it only stands to reason that on a chess site one would find the same human diversity as one would find on, say, the street.

If a beautiful woman is walking down the street, maybe 40% of males wouldnt pay any attention, 59% would at least take a 2nd look ( maybe a bit too long of one) without saying anything, and the remaining 1 % would try to talk to her/ hit on her/ ask her for a date.

How do you expect to find anything different among chess players? Are we supposed to be THAT much different from the average human being? And the fact that you dont see us or know our names makes it a LOT more likely for us to be FAR less inhibited in what we say on the street.

This is a very simple explaination, and quite an obvious one, as to why that picture would recieve that kind of attention ( after all, while too young for me, she is very attractive). So why dont you a) remove the picture if you dont like the results of having it, b) ignore the problem and block the rude ones, or c) keep whining about human nature like a snot-nosed brat who cannot accept humanity for all it is and ist.

mynd_zye

correction at the end of 4th paragraph: The fact that you dont see us or know our names makes it a LOT more likely for us to be FAR less inhibited THAN what we say on the street.

Look, I'll say this to the people who say "why not hit on girls here if you wanna meet a girl interested in chess?" there are many places to meet girls who play chess outside of this website. I met a girl awhile ago at a coffee shop who goes there every thursday to play chess. Go join a chess club, you might find you a good gal their. My point being, guys get off your d@mn computers for once and go out into the world to meet girls. Here is a question- out of all the couples you know how many of them met on the internet, and how many met each other somewhere else? I personaly don't know any couples who met in cyber space. I  know there are people out there who have gotten together online, but your chances of getting a girlfriend are significantly better in the real world. So why not give it a shot?

LOL -- thank you for saying that! My husband and I have been saying the same thing for weeks. When I tell him the things that go on here, he says, "What the heck is that place, a dating site or a chess site?"

Personally, I'm just here to play chess. And as my screenname is not overtly female, the treatment from some of the men I play changes whether I have up a photo of my face, my son, or my pet chicken... you can guess which one gets the most lude or crude or even plain old flirtatious chat. There are some men on here who will only play women or players they think are women, and never any men. One such guy started to flirt with me -- I told him, look, I'm middle aged, a mother, married and not intereted in flirting... he just abandoned the game and I won on time. Amazing.

But the men alone cannot be blamed, as there are quite a few females who sign up here, post exceptionally sexy photos, just to lure guys and flirt outrageously themselves. To each her own.

But I know some of the hottest female photos put up just must be men having a laugh, or who just want to post a photo of a their favourite Victoria Secret model or their girlfriend or their dream girl or whoever... and I find it hillarious that other boys/men immediately start to flirt and pant...  absolutely hillarious.

Baddbishop

Perhaps the politically correct thing would be to mandate unrestrained flirtation during play among all sexes, animals, and sundry avatars and icons.

... As for you pretty gals who complain about being "hit on" all you have to do is block the offenders OR dont let it be known that you are female. Problem solved.

I have to disagree with you there on one point -- I don't feel I need or want to hide that I am female to be treated with equal respect to other players. That's a bit of a blame-the-victim thing, and I won't succumb to that.

Besides, I enjoy playing other women in women-only tournies and team games and being in women's chess groups -- kinda hard to do if you aren't id'd as female.

But your point is very valid about women or men who post overtly sexy or suggestive photos... c'mon, the phrase "this is not a dating site" cuts both ways.

mhtraylor

So... a guy puts a picture of a girl on his profile and discovers, much to his amazement, that men--nay, chess-playing men (a subset of the gender long thought to be dormant sexually)--become interested in what they think is an attractive woman.

This is ground-breaking research, people. I mean, really, we need government funding on this, pronto. This might even lead to a breakthrough on the perennial question, "Where do babies come from?"

stanhope13

if you touch a woman's belly button she,ll have a baby.
