It's not enough to have some vague and empiric understanding of the word, and then throw everything that is more or less negative under the label.
An Internet troll, is a sort of sadist, who do enjoy making people suffer in various ways. Various, but actually undirect ways, otherwise, the fun would not last, and would be cheap.
So, in order to achieve "great fun", the real troll will make a plan that is meant to confuse and mislead other people, like dragging them into a silly argument about some so obvious thing.
Hence, direct insults and such, are rarely used by trolls, other than pure beginners. It's a bit like chess: advanced strategies produce better results in overall than blunt caveman attacks.
Well, unless, maybe, people are so dumb and ignorant that they'll shout "troll!!" every time they'll see a butterfly passing by. But that's an other story.
